Gregory Lynn Henson passed away surrounded by family in Clinton, MD on Thursday, September 19, 2013 after a brief illness. He was one of six children born to the late Clarence & Loretta Henson. Gregory was born on September 21, 1958 in Washington D.C. The family relocated to Louisa County, VA where he received his education in Louisa County Public Schools. He was a member of Rising Sun Baptist Church in Mineral, VA. Following his graduation from Louisa County High School in 1976, Gregory served 4 years of active duty in the U.S. Navy. After his military service, he relocated to Princes Georges County, MD where he then went to work for the United States Postal Service for 25 years. As a hobby, Gregory loved fishing, collecting watches, and coins. He also enjoyed football and was a die-hard Washington Redskins fan. He also loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a wonderful father and outstanding grandfather. He was very much a family man and traveled often from his residence in MD back home to Louisa County to visit his children, grandchildren, siblings, and extended family. Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence & Loretta Henson. He leaves 5 children to cherish his memory: LaTroy Houchens (Lousia, VA), Gregory Houchens (Louisa, VA), Sabrina Coles (Louisa, VA), Shadia Henson (Ft. Washington, MD), and Anekia Morgan (Suitland, MD), as well as six grandchildren. He also leaves one sister, Darlene Henson of Mineral, VA; four brothers, Clarence Henson, Jr. of Mineral VA, Jerome (Bernadine) Henson of Fredericksburg VA, Brian (Yvonne) Henson of Fredericksburg,VA and Anthony Henson of Louisa,VA; two aunts, Joan Crawley of Ontario, Canada, and Dorothy Henson of Mineral, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and two devoted friends, Deloris James, and Chester Jackson. Funeral services: Thursday, September 26, 2013 at noon at the Bells United Methodist Church, 6016 Allentown Road Camp Spring, MD with viewing from 10:30am until Noon. Friday, September 27, 2013 at noon at the Rising Sun Baptist Church, Mineral, VA with Rev. Frederick Sales officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Henson Family Cemetery.
