Gilbert M. Price, Sr., 89, of Kents Store, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. Gilbert was born on February 17, 1937, in Washington, DC to the late Bessie Price Johnson. He was raised by the late John & Alberta Price of Louisa, VA. He was united in marriage to Rosemary Pendleton- Price for 61 years and God blessed them with two children, Bessie Fortune (Clarence Sr.) and Gilbert Price Jr. (Theresa).

He attended Louisa County Public Schools as a young man. He retired from Louisa County Public Schools, where he worked as a custodian for 38 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished time spent with his family. He also enjoyed playing cards and horseshoes. He absolutely loved those Dallas Cowboys, or “Cow Brothers” as he called them. Gilbert was also known as the Governor of Louisa, The Goat, Buddy, and Papa by all those close to him.

Gilbert is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rosemary Price; his children, Bessie (Clarence Sr.) and Gilbert, Jr (Theresa); his grandchildren, Tzeira (Allen), Clarence (CJ) Fortune, Jr., Augustus Anderson, Brian and Briana Garland; his great grandchildren, Allen Ginn, III, Aiden Ginn, Jah’lei Monroe, Asonti Ginn and Aliyah Ginn; his siblings Yvonne Mealy, Priscilla Dickerson (Willie), Delma Price (Julia), Arnetta Brackett (Tyrone), Peggy McGhee (Calvin), Brenda Thomas, Reva Ragland (Bruce), Marvin Price (Sharon), Vanessa Garrett (Jimmy) and Cecilia Brown (Joseph). He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins/ “siblings”, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law. Special friends who stayed by his side to the end were Earl Grooms, Richard Bickley, Mike Henson, Janice Powell, Lonnie Dickerson, Tyrone Brackett, Lawrence Waddy, and Kenny Throckmorton.

Special Thanks to the doctors and nurses at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital and the Hospice of Piedmont for their care during his stay with them.

Gilbert will be remembered for his kindness and unwavering love for his family. We will miss all his jokes and his lifetime stories.

To the Price family, we at D. D. Watson offer our most sincere sympathy and condolences. Our prayer continues to be that your abiding faith in God will lend to you a measure of comfort that will strengthen and sustain you during your time of sorrow.

It is during such times as these that we draw upon our faith, stand upon our scriptures, and rely upon our God. There is no question that in this and through this, God will keep you, comfort you, and sustain you. You and your family are forever in our prayers.
