Gertrude Wickham Moore transitioned to be with The Lord on Thursday October 13, 2016 at Dogwood Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Orange, Virginia. Mrs. Moore was born to the late Mr. & Mrs. Ben and Lelia Wickham in Louisa County, Virginia on December 28, 1929. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Moore Sr., son, Thomas Moore Jr., parents Ben and Lelia Wickham, brother, Lewis Wickham, and sisters, Gladys Moore and Edith Davis.
Mrs. Moore is survived by her two children; son, Raynard Moore (Gale) of Louisa, daughter, Beverly Moore Blanding (Bill) of Mineral, VA, three grandchildren; Dr. LaTasha Blanding of Alexandria, Virginia, Dinisha Blanding of Mineral, VA, and Briana Moore of Louisa, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and extended family members.
At age 10, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized in Pump Creek in Fredericks Hall. She joined the Rising Sun Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend John L. Tyler. She was a faithful member and attended church regularly until her health declined. Mrs. Moore served and held various positions within the church to include treasurer of the Senior Missionary, mentor to the Junior Missionary, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher, member of the Senior Choir and Usher Board, and involvement with the Mattaponi Convention.
Mrs. Moore was domestic worker for many years. She was also employed at Louisa Manufactory for over 20 years and Louisa County Public School as a custodian for 5 years. She retired in 1998.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Rising Sun Baptist Church 6829 Fredericks Hall Road Mineral, VA. 23117
Pastor Elect: Reverend Walter Pleasants, officiating and Rev. Fred Sales eulogist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
