Gertrude Pearl Shelton Bishop, 58, of Louisa, Virginia died Monday, October 20, 2008 at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. Mrs. Bishop, a native of Kents Store, Virginia, was born November 10, 1949 to Lewis Shelton, Sr and the late Alice Johnson Shelton. She was preceded in death by her brother Marvin Shelton.

Gertrude joined Galilee Baptist Church at an early age. She was an active member of the church and served in many capacities; she was a member of the Usher Board and served as it's Treasurer, sang on the Junior Choir and was a current member of the Gospel and Senior Choir. She also taught Sunday School and served as Treasurer and Financial Secretary. She graduted from Abrams High School in Fluvanna. Gertrude was employed with Virginia National Bank and later worked at Sperry Marine/Northrop Grumman until she retired.
Gertrude leaves to cherish her memory: her father, Lewis Shelton, Sr and his wife Alberta; husband, Paul Sr; son Paul Jr and wife Felicia; daughter, Melissa; five brothers, Lewis Jr., Leroy and his wife Virgie, James and his wife Delores all of Goochland, Roger and his wife Brenda, and Paul and his wife Lola all of Kents Store; sister, Mattie Kenan of Washington, D.C.; one brother in law, James Arnett and wife Diane; three grandchildren Devin, Xavier, and Caleb, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 24, 2008 at Galilee Baptist Church, 3598 Three Notch Road Ferncliff, Virginia 23053(RR 250 East at RR 208) with the Rev. Otis R. Spellman, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
