George Robert Shelton, Sr. (fondly remembered as Bob), was born a son of the late Deacon Jordan and Bertha Grady Shelton on December 27, 1937 in Louisa County, Virginia.  While surrounded by his loving wife and children, on Thursday, July 16, 2020 Bob quietly slipped from his earthly season and began his eternal journey to the Promised Land.

"Bob" was a 1955 graduate of Archie G. Richardson High School and he was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1967.  While serving in the Army, Bob completed Advanced Individual Military Police training at Fort Gordon, Georgia in 1962.  After returning from the Army, George worked for Stone and Webster, Louisa County Public Schools, and retired from Tradewinds.  Bob loved hunting and spending time with family. George was a member of Louisa Temple Lodge 113.

During the pastoral leadership of Reverend John L. Tyler, George was baptized and joined the Rising Sun Baptist Church.  On October 9, 1970 he joined in holy matrimony to Fannie Houchens Shelton and this union was blessed with five children.

George was preceded in earthly death by his parent, Deacon Jordan and Bertha Shelton; brothers:  Oscar Shelton, Wilson Shelton, and John Shelton; and his sisters:  Alice Mae Shelton, Brenda Shelton, and Isabelle Mickens.

Left to cherish sweet memories are his loving and devoted wife, Fannie Shelton;  one daughter:  Antionette Shelton of Surry, VA;  four sons:  Bradley Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA, George (Tanya)Shelton, Jr. of Herndon, VA, Steven Shelton of Mineral, VA, and Kevin (Tasha) Shelton of Louisa, VA;  three sisters:  Gerleen Sawyer, Bertha Harris (Roy), and Jessie Hayden all of Mineral, VA;  seven brothers:  Samuel Lewis of Clarksville, TN, Timothy (Emma) Shelton, Walter Shelton,  Ray Shelton and Gregory Shelton all of Mineral, VA, Albert Shelton of Louisa, VA, and Larry Shelton of Chesterfield, VA;  eleven grandchildren:   Kiara Shelton, Anissa Shelton, Bradley Shelton, Trinity Shelton, George Shelton, III, Brandon Shelton, Adrienne Turner, Layla Shelton, Steven Shelton, Jr., Matrayja Shelton, and Kevin Shelton, Jr.;  three great-grandchildren:  Nathan Harris, Londynn Shelton and Aiden Shelton;  one uncle:  Harry Scott, Jr. of New York;  three aunts:  Edna Scott of Chicago, Harriet Scott and Tina Scott both of New York;  sisters-in-law:  Clydenia Shelton, Clarissa Shelton, Lucille Shelton, Shirley Henson, and Carrie Yancey  all of Mineral, VA, Christine Yancey of Richmond, VA, and Gaile Shelton (Dennis) of Glen Allen, VA;  brothers-in-law:  Howard Hunter (Willie Mae) of Louisa, VA, Thomas Hunter (Rosetta), and Ruby Davis all of Louisa, VA, Bishop Linwood Sawyer of Spotsylvania, VA, Robert Yancey (Joyce) of Sarasota, FL, Thomas Yancey (Lori) of Mineral, VA, and Griffent Yancey (Joy) of Rockville, VA;   his best friend:  Thomas Morton of Washington, DC;  his devoted and caring niece:  Shawn Shelton of Louisa, VA;   and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2020 at Rising Sun Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Frederick Sales officiating. Burial, with Masonic rites and military honors, will follow in the church cemetery.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendance for the graveside services will be limited to immediate family.
