Louisa - George H Morris, Jr. , fondly known as Bobo to family and friends, passed away on August 2, 2024. Born on November 28, 1954, in Louisa, VA, Bobo remained a proud hometown resident, returning to live in Louisa after a distinguished career as a Naval Hospital Corpsman.
Bobo had a commendable career in the United States Air Force and Navy, serving as a Medical Service Specialist and a Naval Hospital Corpsman. His dedication to his work was evident in his numerous awards and achievements, including the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Navy Good Conduct Award, and more. With a steadfast commitment to his country and his peers, his spirit left an indelible mark on everyone he interacted with. While in service, he contributed to developing the Basic Surgical Skills handbook at The Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, a testament to his dedication and expertise in his field.
Bobo was a man of many passions. He loved watching The Three Stooges, immersing himself in the music of Earth, Wind and Fire, and The Temptations, and had a keen interest in antiquing. A member of the Mt Gilliam Baptist Church, Bobo's faith was integral to his life. His love for his family, especially his daughters, was unparalleled; he often said they were his greatest accomplishments.
Although known for his spirited personality, he was also troubled. He had mental illness combined with alcohol and drug addiction, two pervasive and insidious diseases. Bobo had a supportive and loving family, but the diseases were stronger, estranging him from a family that loved him dearly. We have to let it be known that addiction does not discriminate, and no one is immune. If anything, what can be learned is that there is an epidemic, and we must be willing to help those who want help and not create a stigma behind it.
Bobo is survived by his mother, Alice Pendleton-Morris; his daughters, Nikki Morris and Keisha Sanchez-Morris (sp: Carolina Sanchez-Morris); his granddaughter, Jocelyn Sanchez-Morris; his former spouse, Marva Thomas-Morris; his nephew, Paul Jones; his niece, Alice Griffin-Burley (sp: Lonnie Burley, children: Alona & Gabriel Burley); his aunt, Dora (Sister) Comfort; his uncle Oscar (Slick) Morris (sp: Hallie Morris); a daughter, Melody Poindexter and a host of cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, George Morris Sr., and his sisters, Debra Morris and Victoria Morris.
We invite everyone who knew and loved Bobo to share their memories and upload photos to the memorial page. Your stories will help to keep Bobo's dedicated spirit alive in our hearts.
To the Morris family, we at D. D. Watson offer our most sincere sympathy and condolences. Our prayer continues to be that your abiding faith in God will lend to you a measure of comfort that will strengthen and sustain you during your time of sorrow.
