When the time comes to bid this life farewell, we should find comfort in knowing that a loving God will be there with us to guide us to our new home.

Mr. George Henry Johnson was born January 29, 1940, in Louisa County, son of the late George Luther Johnson and Ida McGhee Johnson. He was a member of Foster Creek Baptist Church, Louisa, Virginia. George would also fellowship with the Burning Bush Christian Church of Palmyra, Virginia.

George was preceded in death by the love of his life, his beautiful wife, Lucille Ragland Johnson, his beloved son Marvin Lee Johnson, three loving brothers Lawrence Johnson, Alex Johnson and Vernice Johnson, six brother -in-laws, Roy L. Ragland, George T. Ragland, James S. Ragland, Robert Cromwell, Marshall Athey, and Earl E. Scott; three sister -in-laws, Iris Athey and Dorothy Cromwell, Shirley Jean Ragland, father- in- law Lee Ragland and mother-in-law Rosa B. Johnson Ragland .

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving son Henry Louis Johnson and beautiful daughter Shelia Denise Pendleton(Nathaniel), one brother Percy Bishop (Mary) of Louisa; VA, his dear and cherished grandchild Maurice Lorenzo Payne and his wife Leonika; of Palmyra; VA, his loving grandchildren Brandon Ray Pendleton, Bryant Lamont Pendleton, Brianna Nicole Pendleton, six loving great grandchildren Maurion Lemonte’ Payne and Maliah Nyhjae’ Payne; of Palmyra, VA; Brielle Monea Pendleton, Nathan Joel Pendleton, Zaliyah Larae Pendleton, Axel Pierce Pendleton; of Louisa, VA, four brother-in-laws, Owen Ragland (Jesteane) of Chesterfield, VA; MacArthur Ragland (Virginia), Herbert Ragland and Charles Ragland, three sister-in-laws Audrey Scott, Dora Louise Ragland, Katherine Quarles Johnson; all of Louisa, a special and devoted Godson Randal Johnson, a devoted niece Angela Comfort (Sweetpea), a devoted nephew Chris Coleman and a special and devoted former caretaker Roberta Ann Jackson Carter. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, honorary grandchildren, cousins and friends.

George was a man of many talents, especially working on Volkswagen vehicles. He began his mechanical career at Hopper’s Motors of Charlottesville, VA. He then worked for over thirty-three years at John Linkous Volkswagen in Charlottesville, VA. and was awarded many times for his mechanical expertise. After retirement he and his wife continued to clean homes and even blessed God by becoming the Foster Creek Baptist Church sextons, until age and health prevented them to do so.

Mr. George Henry Johnson touched the lives and hearts of so many people. George was an awesome man, who showed everyone around him how to live a life of peace and joy. He blessed so many without expecting anything in return. From working on people’s cars in the community, to visiting the sick and shut-in, distributing food to families in need, to lending a hand wherever it was needed. George especially loved spoiling his grandson, his twin, Maurice Payne, that he so affectionately referred to as Reese or Papa’s Man, “Cheeks”. In George’s latter years he ate and spent Thanksgiving with the Harris and Payne family. This year he chose to spend Thanksgiving in heaven with his beautiful wife Lucille. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He will forever be missed by us all.
