Frank Louis Groomes, Jr., a resident of Louisa County, Virginia, departed this life Sunday, February 13, 2022 at the age of 80. He was blessed to be at home with his loving wife and daughter by his side.  He was born February 14, 1941 in Louisa, Virginia and attended the public schools of Louisa County.  Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Carrie Grooms; his brother, Shelton Grooms; sisters, Windell Hackney, Mary Henderson, Hannah Grooms and Lucy Epps and dear son, Frank L. Groomes, lll.

Frank was a devoted father and husband to his family.  He enjoyed many outdoor activities.  As a young man, he enjoyed motorcycles and going to drag strip racing, and later in life held membership in local hunting clubs.  Frank loved salt water fishing and enjoyed sharing his fishermen skills with his children.  He would spend vacations, weekends and evenings on a pier patiently waiting for a bite.  He was a music lover and would often play some of the great soul and blues musicians on his record player, like James Brown, B.B. King, Ray Charles, Al Green and Otis Redding.  What a dancer he was!   He knew how to "shake a tail feather"!  Holidays with Frank meant, a good meal (ham), good music, family, hunting with friends, and laughter.

Early in life he learned how to log wood with his father and would later work several jobs in this line of work.  Later he would begin a career in construction work and retire at the age of 62.  Frank was a handyman who helped build a home for his wife and children.  Frank's big personality, great sense of humor and unconditional love are cherished memories.  Although faced with Alzheimer's in the latter years of life, Frank never lost his sense of humor, sweetness and love for family.  Frank will be truly missed by all who knew him.

He leaves to cherish his memory, Rickey Groomes, his wife of 49 years; 3 daughters, Kathleen M. Minor, Carrie M. Groomes, and Kimberly N. Groomes; one daughter-in-law, Katina Groomes; one son-in-law, George Minor; sister, Julia Thurston and devoted brother, Carl Grooms; sisters-in-law, Millie Grooms, Evette White and Sherry Fletcher; brothers-in-law, Steven Fletcher, Pete Moffett, Chris Fletcher and Dennis White.

Frank, also known as Pap Pap, will be missed by his five grandchildren; Alea and husband, Malcolm Turley, Markel Groomes, Amir Johnson, Joshua Minor and Nyla Rose Groomes; his blessed six great-grandchildren, Amya, Tristan, Miyala, Cherish, Amari and Josiah and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
