Frances was the fifth child and third daughter of John and Sylvania Winston, born on June 26, 1924, in Louisa County, Virginia. She departed this life on Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Falls Run Skilled Nursing Rehabilitation Center in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
They called her Della or O'Della and she was also known by the nickname, "Chick". Della attended Oakland Grade School and Louisa Training School in Louisa with her two brothers and three sisters. She was baptized at the Wayland Baptist Church at an early age. Della was employed with the United States Department of Labor in Washington, D.C. She was the mother of, as she likes to say, her "one children", Bobby A. Winston, Sr.
In 1953 she was united in holy matrimony to Leonard Franklin Lasley in Louisa. In 1954, they moved and made their home in Logan, West Virginia. Della continued her education at Southern Community College in Logan, WV. She was employed with Logan Board of Education for 22 years and retired in 1967.
When Della moved to Logan, she joined the Saint Phillip's Missionary Baptist Church and became an active member. She held the office of Financial Secretary, was active on the Missionary Board and the Pastor's Aid Committee. She was also a member of the bible study class and participated in prayer service and Vacation Bible School. She resided in Logan for 41 years.
Della moved back to Louisa sixteen years ago. She reunited with Wayland Baptist church where she was an active member and deaconess. Della was a member of the Oakland-Ellisville Homemakers Club. For leisure she would complete cryptograms, crocheting, knitting and helping other family members to remember.
In addition to her parents, Della was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; four brothers, Marshall, Joseph, James and Robert Winston; two sisters, Sadie Martini and Edna Reed ; two grandchildren, Vanessa D. Rhymes and Rodney M. Meade.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted son, Bobby A. Winston, Sr. and daughter-in-law, Delores M. Winston; granddaughter, Sheryl C. Adams; grandson, Bobby A. Winston, Jr.; great granddaughters, Tiffini Fleet, Latisha Meade and Heather Carey; great grandsons, Bobby A, Winston, III and James Meade; great great granddaughters, Nataya Flament, Tiara R. Bailey and Autumn Lee ; great great grandson, Reign Bailey; grandson–in- law, Terry Adams; great grandson-in-law, Ron Fleet; two sisters, Geneva W. Hall and Inez W. Thurston; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Wayland Baptist Church, Trevilians, VA, with Pastor Frances Lewis, officiating and interment will follow in the church cemetery.
