Floyd Gatewood was born on September 18, 1936 to the late Susie Boxley-Gatewood and Robert Gatewood. He departed this life on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at UVA Transitional Hospital in Charlottesville, VA.

At an early age, Floyd joined First Baptist Church in Louisa County. He received his formative education in the public schools of Louisa County. He continued his education at Cortez W. Peters Business College in Washington, DC. He resided in Gaithersburg, Maryland and maintained a prosperous career at Safeway where he later retired after many, many years of dedicated service.

He is survived by his daughter, April Goodman Gatewood; his brother, Samuel Gatewood (Christine); sister-in-law, Elaine Gatewood; dedicated nephew, David Winn, Jr.; dedicated niece, Gloria Winn, and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Floyd was preceded in death by his dedicated sister, Florence Winn and brother-in-law, David Winn, Sr.; his two brothers, Broadus Boxley (Dorothy) and Robert Gatewood.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 in The Sun Chapel at D. D. Watson Louisa, with Rev. Bruce Jones- Officiant and Eulogist. Interment will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery.
