Floyd Edward Bishop Sr., born June 27, 1930, entered eternal slumber on August 11, 2015, in Willingboro NJ after a yearlong battle with cancer.
Floyd known lovingly as Jack, was born in Louisa County, Virginia to the late Earl and Alice McCowan Bishop. He was the 9th of 10 children: Carrie, Fronie, Arthur, Elizabeth, Mabel, George (Buster), Helen, Christine, and Edna.
Floyd married Helen Cook, "his AppleJack" in 1970. She has been his devoted companion and helpmate for over 48 years.
Floyd accepted Christ as a young man and enjoyed attending church services all over the country as he traveled the road. He was a self-employed truck driver for many years, moving many VIPS because of his hard work ethic and high reputation. He was known locally as a mechanic, and everyone would ask him to look at their cars. Up to the day before his cancer surgery, he removed a transmission by himself (at 85 suffering from gastric cancer) which speaks of his strength even at his advanced age.
While most of his friends preceded him in death, it didn't take long to fall in love with his loud, infectious laugh, easy going nature and incredible stories.
Along with Apple Jack, Jack leaves to mourn his four children: Pearl Mansfield (MacLloyd), Floyd Jr (Virginia), Phyllis Rogers (Aaron, Sr.) and Tawn Scotton (Jeffrey, Sr.); eleven loving grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews that all adored their Uncle Jack.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, August 17, 2015 at Standing on the Promises of God Church, 1240 Waldrop Church Road Louisa, VA 23093 with Rev. Larry L. Holt, Sr., officiating. Viewing will begin at 10:30 on the day of the service at the church; the family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
