". . . Weeping may endure for a night,
but joy cometh in the morning".
(Psalm 30;5)
Deaconess Florence Louise Boxley-Winn
was born August 25, 1918 to the late Susie
Boxley-Gatewood. She departed this life
June 4, 2008, at the age of 89, in the comfort
of her son's home.
At a young age, she joined First Baptist
Church, where she was a member for over 75
years and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord
and Savior. She received her formative
education in the public schools of Louisa
County.
On December 26, 1940, she was joined in
Holy matrimony to Deacon David Winn, Sr.
This union was blessed with one son, David
Winn, Jr. and doubly blessed with three
grandchildren.
Over her lifetime, Florence dedicated her time
and service to the First Baptist choir,
missionary, Busy Bees, the deaconess board,
and the Eastern Stars. Although, Florence is
survived by only one son, she has been a
mother to many. Florence was loved and
adored by many and everybody knew that she
sure could cook. Florence will be greatly
missed but her family is comforted by the
mere thought of her reuniting in the Kingdom
of Heaven with god and the love of her life.
Florence was preceded in death by her loving
husband, David, Sr., and brothers, Broadus
Boxley and Robert Gatewood. Florence
leaves to cherish her memories, one son,
David, Jr. (Gloria); three grandchildren, John,
Rosetta (Greg), and Monique (Clarance); three
foster daughters, June Smart, Barbara Brown,
and Peggy Morris; two brothers, Samuel and
Floyd Gatewood, three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Boxley, Elaine and Christine Gatewood; four greatgrand children; and four great-greatgrand children and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church 102 Meadow Avenue Louisa, Virginia 23093 with Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Wooden, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery.
