Obituary

Listen to Obituary
It is with great sympathy that
we announce the home going of
Mrs. Fannie M. Holmes, who
died on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016
at Martha Jefferson Hospital in
Charlottesville.

She was born August 18,
1938 to Mrs. Fannie J. Washington
and the late Clifton B.
Washington, both of Mineral,
Virginia.

Fannie was the wife of Mr.
James M. Homes who affectionately
referred to her as "Doll."
Their union spanned 52 years.
Most of those years Mr. and
Mrs. Holmes sang together as
the "Gospel Due," sharing their
love of Christ through song,
spreading the gospel along most
of the East Coast. The "Gospel
Duet" was planning to make its
first professional recording prior
to Mrs. Holmes being called to
sing with the Lord.

Mr.and Mrs. Holmes are
the proud parents of three sons;
Timothy, Cliff and Jamie (Lisa),
all of whom are musicians. They
are also the proud grandparents
of two grandsons, Mason, age 11
and Gavin, age 5.

Fannie was a faithful member
of Jerusalem Baptist Church
located on Mansfield Road in
Mineral, where she served as
the church clerk and sang alto in
the senior choir for many years.

For 34 years Fannie worked
as a secretary for the V.P.I. Extension
Service, supporting Mr.
James Butler, Mr. Earl Boozer,
and Mr. Jim Riddell. Fannie was
treated to a wonderful retirement
celebration to commemorate her
loyal employment with the V.P.I.
Extension Service.

"Miss Fannie," as she was
lovingly referred to by many
friends, was preceded in death
by her father, Clifton B. Washington,
several aunts, uncles,
nieces, nephews and many,
many friends.

Fannie leaves a host of family
and friends to cherish her
memory.

The last words she heard
from her husband were, "Honey,
we will sing together in Heaven
one day."

Funeral services will be held at noon on
Saturday, March 5, 2016 at
Temple of Deliverance Church
5657 Zachary Taylor Highway
