Mrs. Evvie Mae Ragland, 87, was called away peacefully in her home in Louisa County, Virginia, with those she loved by her side. She was born on April 10, 1937, to the late Tressie White and Calvin Claxton of Louisa. Evvie was the third of nine children. She was preceded in death by Edward Claxton of Richmond, Annie Mae Jones of Philadelphia, PA, Elizabeth Johnson of Trevilians, Calvin Claxton Jr. of Hyattsville, MD, Benny Claxton, and Dottie Joe Thomas, both of Louisa, VA. She is survived by her sister, Tressie Pace of Goochland and brother, Walter Claxton of Baltimore, MD.

As a child, she dedicated her time to helping provide for her family and continued to do so until she was finally laid to rest. Evvie Mae was an extremely diligent worker, retiring from General Electric after 35 years at the age of 55. She continued to be a staple in the yard sale community, hosting some of the largest sales in Louisa, complete with beautiful antiques and anything you could think of, even the kitchen sink.

Evvie was a dedicated mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, cousin, friend, and wife. She is survived by her one-of-a-kind, loving husband, George Linwood Ragland, 92, who stayed by her side through thick and thin for over 65 years. They have eight wonderful children: Hossane Ragland (Terence), George Ragland Jr. (Tukita), Bridgett Ragland, Richard Arnett, Marvin Arnett (Sharon), Bennie Ragland, Keith Maupin, and Twanda Thomasson. Our matriarch left a legacy of 24 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren.

Evvie Mae will always be remembered and kept close in our hearts. With blessed hands, she enjoyed gardening, cooking for her family and the church, spending time with loved ones, and gifting her baked goods— and how could we forget the taste of her marvelous array of perfectly baked pound cakes. She was also diligent in her devotion to the Lord at First Baptist Church of Louisa, where she served as an ordained deacon, head of the Usher Board, and provided many years of service, completing and spreading God's word as a missionary, until she was unable to. Evvie left a lasting legacy that has impacted many lives. Her contagious smile will forever remain in our hearts.

The family wishes to acknowledge special thanks to the emergency and north third-floor medical staff at the University of Virginia Hospital and Hospice of the Piedmont for their kindness, support, and excellent care.

To each of you in the Ragland family, we at D. D. Watson offer to you our most sincere and heartfelt sympathy and condolences. Our prayer continues to be that your abiding faith in God will lend to you a measure of comfort that will strengthen and sustain you during your time of sorrow.
