Evelyn Mae Jackson entered into eternal rest on December 23, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her family. Her life began on May 10, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Dennis and Viola Jackson. Evelyn was proceeded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Jackson, her son, Dwight Jackson and two sisters Margaret Bruce and Christine Winston.
Evelyn confessed Christ at an early age by joining her family's home church, Byrd Grove Baptist Church in Kents Store, VA. Evelyn graduated from S.C. Abrams High School in Palmyra, VA, where she was a member of the girls' basketball team. After graduating high school, she attended Bernette West Beauty School where she received her beautician license.
Evelyn enjoyed gardening, cooking, entertaining with family and friends; most of all, she loved her family. Her cooking was well known throughout the county; the local newspaper recognized her for the cooking of her biscuits, sweet potato pies and homemade rolls.
Evelyn was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and neighbor. She was a strong woman that people could count on. When those she loved needed something done, she was always there giving a helping hand to assist anyone who was in need. Evelyn assisted a lot of the working parents in the neighborhood by opening up her home for kids in the neighborhood; cooking and giving a warm hug of comfort to all of the kids.
On June 24, 1950, Evelyn married Thomas A. Jackson and out of this union they had seven devoted children. Evelyn had another addition to her family named, "Izzy Boy" her darling cat. For many years, Brenda, Debra and Kim would travel home frequently to assist Wanda, Saundra and Don with appointments and other duties. She always was appreciated for her children.
Her loving memory, like a faded rose, will be cherished by her children, Brenda Jackson, Debra Morton-Robinson, both of Capital Heights, MD, Kimberly Gibbs (Donald) of Suitland, MD, Don, Wanda and Saundra Jackson of Kents Store, VA; one brother, Gilbert Jackson and two sisters, Helen Hubert and Thelma Jackson of Kents Store, VA; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Ernest Bruce of Kents Store, VA; two sisters-in-law, Christine Jackson, of Kents Store, VA and Christine Evans of Hampton, VA; Lorraine "Saint Poo" Farrar, a faithful family member who provided care for Evelyn and the kids; Thelma ("Cutney") and Lorraine who assisted the children day and night; a special classmate and a longtime friend, Alease Cousin and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Evelyn's siblings, Thelma and Gilbert always visited, and provided love and care during her illness.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Byrd Grove Baptist Church, 2365 Cedar Lane Road Kents Store, VA 23084; Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
