Ethel Mae Morton Yancy, the youngest daughter of the late Willie and Mary E. Morton, was born on August 14, 1932 in Mineral, Virginia. She took her flight of wings on January 6, 2011 after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Mae attended Louisa County Public Schools. At an early age, she gave her life to Christ, was baptized and became a member of Rising Sun Baptist Church under the Pastoral leadership of John L. Tyler. For many years, she was employed at Woolfork Manufacture Incorporated.
Mae was united in holy matrimony to the late Elridge Lee Yancy on July 7, 1956. Their union was blessed with three children. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and an extremely caring grandmother.
Mae possessed a will and a way that was quiet yet powerful, direct yet sincere, and always faithfully optimistic. Her testimony and life of courage in the midst of any trial served as a source of encouragement, empowerment and help to many of those who were blessed to know her and many who were blessed to meet her along her journey.
She leaves to mourn and cherish loving memories, two daughters, Sylvia Chambers of Severn, MD; and Gwendolyn Scott of Mineral, VA; one son, Charles Yancy of Richmond, VA; two granddaughters, Nakia Savoy of Severn, MD and Natasha Yancy of Charlottesville, VA;. one grandson, Andre Jones, Sr. of Severn, MD; eight great-grandchildren; devoted nieces and nephews; three nieces-in-law and a host of other family and friends. She also leaves devoted friends Julia Moore and Marjoni Shelton both of Mineral, VA.
Special thank you to the Hospice of Piedmont.
