Ethel Kathleen Washington Johnson, 86, of Troy, Virginia, departed this life on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at her home. She was born on April 13, 1937 to the late Nancy Holmes Washington and Thomas George Washington of Troy, Virginia.
Kathleen was a member of the Springfield Baptist Church . She served as chairperson of the cemetery committee for numerous years and beautified the Church, both inside and out, especially with flower arrangements.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wallace Junior Johnson; a daughter, Nancy Gloria Johnson; a son-in-law, Richard E. Christmas; a granddaughter, Natalie Dawn Christmas; five sisters, Eve Washington, Mary Christmas, Elsie Roberts, Rev. Betty Jane Creasy, Annette Christmas; three brothers, Ralph Washington, Thomas George Washington, and Calvin Washington.
Kathleen leaves to cherish her memories, her two loving daughters, Brenda Harrison (Frederick) and Gwendolph Christmas; seven grandchildren, Chad Harrison (Jana), Brian Harrison, Richard A. Christmas, Krista Johnson, Nicole McLaughlin (David), Hope Christmas, Brandon Johnson (LaToya); fifteen great-grandchildren, Jalen Harrison, Aisha Harrison, TaLashia Harrison, Elijah Wilson-Johnson, Leonna Johnson, Laniya Johnson, Egypt Wilson-Johnson, Blake Harrison, Londyn Johnson, Caelyn Harrison, Is'lah Rose, India McLaughlin, David McLaughlin, Isauri Rose, Italy Rose, and Landon Johnson; one sister, Cassandra Thomas (Anson); three brothers, James Washington (Diane), Roger Washington (Karen), Thomas Washington (Bertha); a son-in-law, Cornell Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Delores Vowels and Theresa Washington; two god-children, Bonnie Roberts and Cindy Washington, and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
She loved spending time with her family and talking on the telephone with her friends. She had a big caring heart and a smile that would brighten everyone's day. She was just an all-around happy and joyful person.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Daniel L. Watson, Sr. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 2:00 PM. The Service will be held at the Springfield Baptist Church , 1042 Zion Road, Gordonsville, VA 22942.
Interment will follow in the Washington Family Cemetery , 1245 Oliver Creek Road in Troy, VA 22974.
