Rev. Erskine B. Moss passed away unexpectedly on Sunday March 9, 2014 in his home, Prince Fredrick, MD.

Born June 12, 1953, Erskine was the only son of the late Rev. Ernest Moss and Mrs. Hazel J. Moss. At an early age, Erskine accepted Christ and joined the First New Hope Baptist Church, Spotsylvania, VA.

Called into the ministry in 1986, Rev. Erskine Moss preached his trial sermon and was later ordained at the St. Thomas Baptist Church, Louisa, VA, where his father pastored. Rev. Erskine Moss pastored the St. Joseph Baptist Church, Washington, DC, and later joined Calvert Lighthouse Tabernacle, Calvert County, MD upon moving to Maryland. Throughout his career, he worked in children's ministries doing children's revivals, summer camps, champ camps, and workshops.

Rev. Erskine Moss graduated from the Virginia Theological Seminary (now the Virginia University of Lynchburg) with a Bachelor of Theology and Virginia State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Masters of Science in Education Administration and Supervision.

Rev. Moss has 31 years in the field of education as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, Director of Special Education and Area Superintendent. He loved the challenge of working with special needs students and students with serious behavior problems. Moss was active in the Calvert County Education Association, Maryland State Education Association, and the National Education Association. Rev. Moss retired from the Calvert County Public School System, Maryland, November 2013.

Rev. Moss leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Robin-Renee' Barksdale, Richmond, VA; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Putty and brother-in-law James Putty, Spotsylvania, VA; a sister, Princess R. Moss, Richmond, VA; an aunt and uncle, Daphne and Lenwood Johnson, Trevilians, VA; three loving nieces and nephews; two very special friends, Steve and Alice Brooks, Calvert County, MD; as well as many other caring relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life services will be held Saturday March 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the First New Hope Baptist Church, Partlow, VA with interment in the Moss Family Cemetery.
