Emma Lou Minor Shelton was born July 3, 1917, in Louisa County, Virginia. She departed this life at the University of Virginia Hospital on Thursday, April 8, 2009 and entered into eternal rest. She was the daughter of the late George and Sarah Minor.
Emma attended Rising Sun School in Fredericks Hall, Virginia. She accepted Christ and was baptized at Thessalonian Baptist Church at an early age. Emma became a housewife and caring mother. She was employed as a seamstress with Minors Mill Manufactory and retired from Louisa Manufactory after 30 years. She was known for her truthfulness and sharp wit. She enjoyed singing and playing the guitar with her family.
She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Charlie O. Shelton of Mineral, Virginia. They reared nineteen loving and devoted children. She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie O., three sons, Lawrence, Woodrow, and Clarence (Joslyn) and two daughters, Kathryn and Shirley Ann. She leaves to cherish her memories, six sons, Vergie (Eva), Charlie (Gertrude), Henry (Sheila), Joe, David, and George. Seven daughters, Sarah (Meredith), Doris, Louise (Walter), Margie (Tim), Oneida (Henry), Joyce (Ben), and Arlean. She had a total of 60 grandchildren, 75 great grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.
Mother also raised, James, John, Moses (deceased), Carolyn, Dorothy Ann, Duke, Marshal, Carol and George Lee, Ellen Shelton. She also leaves special cousins Louise Robinson and Harry Brooks and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2009 at Thessalonia Baptist Church, 278 Old Country Road, Mineral, Virginia.
