To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. On December 22, 2015, the Lord decided to call his angel, Emma Jean Martin, home to rest at the age of 64. Emma was the daughter of Emma Mae Johnson and the Late Eugene G. Mitchell.

She was loved by many and cherished by all. Emma fought a long battle with cancer, but never complained or wanted to show pain nor suffering. She worked as a CNA for over 30 years and private sitting work for many families. She owned her own catering business called Emma's Home Cooked Catering for over 15 years. Emma was a loving and caring woman who took in anyone and helped everyone. She was a member of the Galilee Baptist Church, Kent Store VA. She started under the leadership of the Rev. Otis Spellman, now the Elder Ruben Lewis, Jr. and served on the Deaconess Board. She attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and served as First Lady where her loving husband has pastored for 10 years. She was a faithful worker in the church and she loved the Lord.

Emma was a devoted wife and mother to her husband and children. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 46 yrs., Rev. Lloyd O. Martin, Sr.; two daughters, Kimberly A. Tyler of Richmond VA and Janika N. Jones of Louisa VA; one son, Lloyd O. Martin, Jr. (Tomeka) of Richmond VA; one stepson, Gerald Bland of Washington DC; twelve grandchildren, DeAndra (Eric) Simon of Roanoke VA, Shawn Collins of Roanoke VA, Isaiah Brown of Louisa VA, Aaron Harris of Nelson County VA, Lyric and Landon Reid of Fluvanna County VA, Mia Martin of Louisa VA, Diamond and Andre Booker of Richmond VA, Deon and Quan Bland of Waynesboro VA and Marcelus Bland of Washington DC; five great grandchildren; three sisters, June Bridgeforth of Charlottesville VA, Patricia Jackson of Roanoke VA and Annette (Russell) Bolden of Charlottesville VA; two brothers, Cass Mitchell of Atlanta GA, Scott (Maria) Mitchell of Albequerque NM; one goddaughter, Lakeya Kiki Scott-Grooms Waynesboro VA, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, December 28, 2015 at Galilee Baptist Church, 3598 Three Notch Road, Kents Store, VA. Interment will follow in the Martin-Payne Cemetery in Fluvanna County.
