Emma Catherine Burruss Burgess, 74, departed this earthly life on January 20, 2019 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. She was born on August 27, 1944 to the late Linwood Burruss and Sadie Johnson Burruss. Emma was known to many as "Peter" and will truly be missed.

Her parents Linwood and Sadie Johnson Burruss preceded her in death and son Herbert W. Burgess, Jr. Emma attended Louisa County Public Schools and was a member of Foster Creek Baptist Church of Louisa, VA.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 58yrs. Herbert W. Burgess, Sr.; four daughters, Kathleen Carter (Herbert), Debra Holt (Irvin), Sylvia Fortune (Floyd) all of Louisa County, and Janie Johnson (James) of Charlottesville. Emma is also survived by her grandchildren, Donnie Burgess (Carla), Jermaine Scott, Jerome Johnson, Joshua Johnson (Hope), Janay Burgess, and Brittany Johnson; nine great grandchildren, one aunt, Lorraine Johnson, two brother-in-laws, and four sister-in-laws.

Emma loved doing outdoor activities. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family. She endured dialysis for 21yrs but her love and compassion never changed.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at The Sun Chapel at D.D. Watson Louisa 117 West Street Louisa, VA 23093. Interment will follow in The Ragland Family Cemetery.
