On Monday, July 26, 2021, Trustee Elwood Dewey White, Sr. peacefully passed away at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia.

He was born May 4, 1936 in Orange, VA, the tenth of twelve children born to the late Henry White and Katie Jonson White.

Elwood attended school in Orange County VA.  He served in the US Army from 1959 to 1965.  He was a life member of the NAACP, member of Louisa Chapter of AARP and a member of the Sharp Shooter Hunt Club.  After 30 years of service, he retired from Perna & Cantrell.

He joined Shady Grove Baptist Church in Orange, VA at an early age.  On January 13, 1991, he joined First Baptist Church in Louisa, VA where he served as a trustee, sang on the Men's Chorus, was a member of the Men's Club, Usher's Ministry and Culinary Ministry.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Florence Smith White of thirty-three years; five children, Richard White (Victoria), Charles White of Orange, VA, Clyde White (Jannie) of Winchester, VA, Vivian Richardson (Raynard),  and Elwood White , Jr. (Joyce) of Louisa, VA; one sister, Louise White of Philadelphia, PA; two sisters-n-law, Iris Smith of Louisa, VA and Alice Gatewood of Camden, NJ; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephew and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon, Saturday, August 7, 2021 at First Baptist Church, 102 Meadows Ave, Louisa, VA with he Reverend Bruce Jones officiating.  Family will receive friends on Friday evening, August 6, 2021 at 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the church.

Burial with military honors will follow in the First Baptist Cemetery directed by D.D. Watson Mortician, Louisa.
