Eleanor Vashtie Henson Vines, 71 of Trevillians, Virginia went home to be with The Father at Martha Jefferson Hospital on July 23, 2011.
She was the daughter of David Whitfield and Ellen Vashite Johnson Henson.
At an early age Eleanor began her life's journey when she gave her life to Christ and developed an honest relationship with The Father. Until her steps became slower, she attended Foster Creek Baptist Church where she served with the hospitality ministry. She was known for her love of cooking, especially homemade pound cakes. Eleanor had a passion for vegetable and flower gardening and she loved to entertain, sharing her home, heart and cooking with all who visited her. She was also known as a skillful spades player.
Eleanor's compassion and love blossomed as she helped raise several of her nieces and nephews, Keith, Harold and especially Fannie, who she raised as her own daughter. As a foster mother for many years Eleanor shared her heart with over 30 children.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, David and Archie Henson; one sister Minnie Webster and two of her many nephews.
She is survived by her husband Columbus Vines; one son, Devon Vines; two daughters, Joyce Vines of Trevillians and Fannie Henson of Charlottesville, Virginia; one brother, William (Ana) Henson of Colorado; one sister, Bessie (Harold) Hackney of Trevillians; one sister in law, Mamie Vines; one step son, Charles (Jackie) Vines; one step daughter, Doristine (Willie) Wiggins of North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Eleanor is loved and adored by all her family and she will be sorely missed.

Funeral services will be at 12 pm on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at the Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel, 117 West Street, Louisa, VA. Public viewing will begin at 12 pm on Saturday. Interment will follow in the Henson Family Cemetery.
