On Saturday, October 30, 2021, Our Heavenly Father peacefully closed the eyes of our Beloved Rev. Edward Rawles Moody, at his residence in Partlow, Virginia, with his loving wife, Joyce, at his bedside.  Although our hearts are heavy with grief, we concur that the Lord called him into eternal rest.

One of five children born to the Late Charles and Martha Jane Green Moody, Edward was born on March 27, 1937.  As the only son, he shared his life with four sisters: Lucy, Joyce, Ruth and Dorothy. He was raised in the Bumpass community, growing up on his father's farm. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two sisters, Lucy Farrell and Joyce Williams.

Edward attended Plum Tree Elementary School and the Louisa Training School, graduating from the former A.G. Richardson High School, in 1955.  After graduation, Edward joined the United States Air Force, where he was stationed worldwide and abroad. After years of committed service, he retired from the Air Force in 1977 and moved to Denver, Colorado, where he worked for and retired from the Federal Government. In May 1980, he returned home to Louisa. In 1999, after 19 years of employment, he retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections, Powhatan, Virginia.

Shortly after returning to Louisa, Edward met the former Joyce Marshall, and they wedded in December 1982.  They were married for 38 years, just shy of 39 years. Their devotion and commitment, to each other and to the work of the Lord, was passionately displayed in every aspect of their lives.

Edward was an active member of the Laurel Hill Baptist Church, where he received Christ and was baptized in his youth.  In 1994, he accepted his call into the ministry and preached his initial sermon.  He was ordained in September 1995, under the pastorate of the Late Rev. Nathaniel Young.  In May 1996, Rev. Moody was installed as Pastor of the Watch Tower Baptist Church, where he pastored for 22 years; retiring in January 2019. He was well-known throughout the church community, as he frequently supported and worshipped with other local churches.

Continuing his education, Rev. Moody attended Virginia Union University, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, the Department of Corrections Academy of Staff Development, and the Fredericksburg Bible Institute and Seminary, where he earned two Associate Degrees and a Bachelor of Theology Degree.

Rev. Moody was very community oriented and contributed personal time to aide in the well-being of the communities. He served as Past President of the Louisa County Sunday School Union, Past Moderator of the Christian Fellowship Union, Past President of the Louisa Branch NAACP, and Past President of the Negro Emancipation Society of Louisa and adjacent counties.

Memories of Edward will be cherished by:  his loving wife, Joyce Moody; six step-children, Marvin Mosby (Valerie), Victor Marshall (Stacie), Janice Marshall, Jackie Marshall, Peggy Craft (Mack) and Tommy LLoyd; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Richardson, of Culpeper and Ruth Derricotte (Higgins) of Washington, DC.; one sister-in-law, Barbara Preston (Jesse); two brothers-in-law, Thomas Ferguson (Beulah), and John Ferguson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
