Edward "John" Grant, Jr. was born on February 2, 1944 in Charleston, South Carolina, a son of the late Edward and Mattie Grant. He departed this life on Tuesday, October 4, 2014 at St. Barnabas Hospital in The Bronx, NY.
He was educated in the New York City Public Schools. Following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge.
John was a member of the New York Transit Authority for 25 years and retired from Transit in 2005. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Empire City casino patron.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Queen Elizabeth Grant and two sisters, Geraldine Washington and Juanita Benbow.
John is survived by three sons, Marcus Grant, Maurice Grant, and Paris Wilson all of Bronx, NY.
He is also survived by two sisters, Ella Mae Cooper, Hendersonville, SC and Roberta (D.D.) Watson, Louisa, Virginia; a brother, Thomas (Sheila) Grant Boston, MA; a sister-in-law, Susie Grant, Harlem, NY; two brothers in law, Kenneth Arthur Jefferson and Jackie Jefferson both of Harlem, NY; his devoted friend, Theodore Moore and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A wake will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rivera Funeral Home, Bathgate Ave, Bronx, New York. Funeral Services will held at noon on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Grover Memorial Baptist Church, Hendersonville Hwy, Hendersonville, SC. Public viewing will be held on Saturday, 3 - 8 p.m. at Grover Memorial.
