Edward S. "Jacky" Jackson, Jr. of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, passed away on February 22, 2025, at 71, at the Hospice of the Piedmont Center for Acute Care in Charlottesville, Virginia. His brave battle with serious medical issues in recent years demonstrated his courage in facing life's challenges with a smile. Jacky emerged as a hero despite the pain, remaining strong until the end.

Jacky accepted Christ at an early age; he held dear many fond memories of his childhood and young adult years while attending Springfield Baptist Church in Gordonsville, Virginia, alongside his family. He graduated from Fluvanna County High School, Palmyra, Virginia, in 1971. After high school, he attended Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio. Jacky made history in 1975 as the first Black correctional officer at Camp 12, a men's correctional facility in Fluvanna County, where he worked from 1975 to 1982. In 1982, after a brief stint at Lorton Correctional Complex in Lorton, Virginia, Jacky joined the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C. He retired as a Detective II in 2008 after twenty-six years of dedicated service.

Jacky was preceded in death by his parents, Edward S. Jackson, Sr. and Cora Virginia Jackson, sister Fannie Butler, two brothers Rockwell and Aurelious Jackson, grandson Pierson Jackson, and daughter-in-law Gequetta Key.
Cherishing his memories are his devoted wife of forty-two years, Zorida Ali Jackson; daughter, Aiyisha S. Jackson; two sons, Edward S. "Jay" Jackson, III (Erin) and Andre Key; a devoted granddaughter Anaya Moore, sister Theodosia Robinson (Arnold) brother McChell Jackson(Inez), grandchildren: Jaelyn, Ariana and Nadiya Jackson and Andre-ABryanna "Bree" and Andre "Tre" Key and great-grandson Myles Barber along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Jacky loved to share his infamous "war stories" with everyone he engaged with. He told them with fascination and enthusiasm and always accompanied them with his loud, bellowing laugh. He also loved to travel; he especially treasured his time with family abroad in Trinidad and Tobago. However, his greatest passion was spending time with his beloved family, with whom he imparted life lessons, shared laughs, and bestowed immeasurable memories.

The Jackson family would like to thank the Hospice of the Piedmont, Charlottesville, Virginia staff and employees whose kindness, compassion, and professionalism immensely helped us through this difficult time.

To the Jackson family, we at  D. D. Watson offer our most sincere sympathy and condolences. Our prayer continues to be that your abiding faith in God will lend to you a measure of comfort that will strengthen and sustain you during your time of sorrow.
