Earl E. Scott, of Louisa, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on April 1, 2025.
Born on July 3, 1953, in Louisa, VA, Earl was the beloved son of the late James and Cora Scott. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Steven, Thomas, and Teddy Jackson; Samuel and Wesley Scott; and Stephen Banks Jr., as well as his beloved son-in-love, Tony Comfort Sr.
Earl was a one-of-a-kind man, the kind you don't see much anymore, a rare soul full of wisdom, kindness, and unwavering love. He was the heart of his family, a devoted husband, a loving father, and the proudest grandfather. He shared 52 loving years of marriage with his devoted wife, Audrey Scott of Louisa. Together, they raised their cherished daughter, Angela Ragland Comfort of Louisa.
He leaves to cherish his memory eight adoring grandchildren: Tierra Ragland (fiancé Leland), Tony Comfort Jr., Antonia Jackson (Travis), Akeem Comfort (special friend Hannah), Tabraisha Comfort, Armani Comfort, Takai Comfort, and Amara Comfort. He is also survived by his three great-grandchildren, Taj Jackson, Kehlani Comfort, and Tonie Comfort, as well as a soon-to-arrive great-granddaughter, expected in July 2025.
They all lovingly called him "Pookie," a name that became a special part of his legacy. It started with his oldest granddaughter, Tierra, whom he used to call "Pookie" as a child. One day, she said, "No, you're Pookie ," and the name stuck. What began as a simple nickname became a lasting symbol of the love, joy, and warmth he brought to his family.
Earl was a man who had a nickname for everyone, even if you didn't know you had one. If you were lucky enough to be in his life, chances are he had a special name just for you, a small but unforgettable way he made everyone feel like family.
He is also survived by his sister, Sadie Harris (Robert), and brother, Ernest Scott, as well as his brothers-in-law Owen (Jesteane), George Johnson, MacArthur (Virginia), Herbert Ragland, and Charles Ragland, and sister-in-law Dora Ragland. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A hardworking and dedicated man, Earl spent many years as a respected plumber before retiring from L.A. Lacy Plumbing & Heating. But beyond his career, his true passion was in the simple joys of life. Earl was an avid fisherman, never missing a chance to cast a line and soak in the peacefulness of the water. He found happiness in the little things, sharing laughter with loved ones, and offering kindness to everyone he met. Whether it was quiet moments around the house tying fishing knots, riding out shopping with his wife, a family gathering, or cheering on his Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Braves, Earl embraced life with an open heart and an unshakable spirit. He found joy in listening to his favorite Southern soul music, quietly playing games on his phone or browsing for the next item he wanted to order for his boat or truck. No moment was too small to appreciate, and no day was wasted when spent doing what he loved.
No matter what he was going through, whenever you asked how he was doing, he would always reply with a simple, "I can't complain." More than just a phrase, it was a reflection of how he lived, with gratitude, resilience, and an unshakable spirit. He was the rock of his family, a man whose presence brought respect, comfort, wisdom, and boundless love. His legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion will live on through those who were blessed to know him. Men like Earl Scott are few and far between, and the world is just a little dimmer without him.
To the Scott family, we at D. D. Watson offer our most sincere sympathy and condolences. Our prayer continues to be that your abiding faith in God will lend to you a measure of comfort that will strengthen and sustain you during your time of sorrow.
