IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Earl Monroe
Holland
May 31, 1937 – August 21, 2018
Earl Monroe Holland passed away peacefully at his home in Palmyra, Virginia on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. He was born May 31, 1937 to the late William Henry and Vivian Marie Holland.
Earl was employed with the Wilson Trucking Company for 32 years and had the distinction of being the first black to be hired. He was also employed part-time at Jefferson National Bank for 25 years. He was no stranger to hard work.
At an early age, Earl joined Evergreen Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Kerr. As love would have it, he met his wife of 61 years, Jane Bruce in the 8th grade (1952). They married in October 1956, and from their union, they had four children Curtis, Kenneth, Earl, and Dorreen. Earl was referred to be a Trustee by his Uncle Paul Franklin at the young age of 21. He had the pleasure of serving as a Trustee for 50 plus years! During his tenure as a Trustee, he took pride in serving in the church, as well as the community until his health started to decline. Earl was a mild mannered, fast talking man, with a great a sense of humor who loved the simple things in life.
Earl was preceded in death by three brothers: Herman C., Robert J. and Clarence E. Holland, and one sister Lucille E. Holland.
