Earl Monroe Holland passed away peacefully at his home in Palmyra, Virginia on Tuesday, August 21, 2018.  He was born May 31, 1937 to the late William Henry and Vivian Marie Holland.

Earl was employed with the Wilson Trucking Company for 32 years and had the distinction of being the first black to be hired.  He was also employed part-time at Jefferson National Bank for 25 years.  He was no stranger to hard work.

At an early age, Earl joined Evergreen Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Kerr.   As love would have it, he met his wife of 61 years, Jane Bruce in the 8th grade (1952). They married in October 1956, and from their union, they had four children Curtis, Kenneth, Earl, and Dorreen.   Earl was referred to be a Trustee by his Uncle Paul Franklin at the young age of 21. He had the pleasure of serving as a Trustee for 50 plus years! During his tenure as a Trustee, he took pride in serving in the church, as well as the community until his health started to decline.  Earl was a mild mannered, fast talking man, with a great a sense of humor who loved the simple things in life.

Earl was preceded in death by three brothers:  Herman C., Robert J. and Clarence E. Holland, and one sister Lucille E. Holland.

Earl leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Jane, three sons: Curtis Holland of Kents Store, VA; Kenneth (Deborah) Holland of Palmyra, VA; Earl S. Holland of Palmyra, VA, and one daughter Dorreen Holland of Palmyra, VA, and one daughter-in law Lorretta Holland of Barboursville, VA; two brothers William Holland of D.C. and Carroll (Shirley) Holland of Alexandria, VA; and two sisters Delores Holland-Payne of Palmyra, VA and Shirley Holland of Upper Marlboro, MD.  He was also the proud grandfather of 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  A host of nieces, nephews, and friends will continue to cherish his memories also.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 25th, at 1pm, at Evergreen Baptist Church 452 Evergreen Road Palmyra, VA 22963.
