Donald Roosevelt Manley was born on June 29, 1949, in Norfolk, VA, to Roosevelt and Velma Manley. After graduating from Maury High School, he enlisted in the US Air Force, serving for four years. There, he received the National Defense Service Award (AFM 900-3). Then, Donald attended Old Dominion University, where he was a member of the charter line of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. After graduation, Donald became a clerk for the United States Postal Service. During his career that spanned 41+ years, he worked in various roles in Norfolk, Richmond, Columbus (OH), and Greensboro (NC). After retiring as an IT Manager, he stayed involved with technology and computers. Later on, he was employed by the Richmond Airport.
Donald was an extremely involved member of Quioccasin Baptist Church. He could be found driving the bus, setting up the banquet room, assisting with vacation bible school and Summer Day Camp at Quioccasin, singing with the Male Chorus, or highly encouraging people to tithe. He was a dedicated trustee and served as the chairperson of the Trustee Ministry.
Donald had many hobbies. He was an avid card player and looked forward to gathering with friends to laugh while talking trash. He was also always looking to add cars to his fleet. He loved traveling. Just had to let him know when and where to show up. Donald and Beverly have cruised and flown all over the world, exploring some countries multiple times. Dotingly, Donald enjoyed spending time with his grandsons.
Donald Roosevelt Manley departed this life unexpectedly on April 28, 2025. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Roosevelt and Velma Manley; his sister, Jacqueline "Jackie" Lassiter; his grandparents and cousins.
Donald leaves to lovingly cherish his memory: his wife of 20 years, Beverly Bullock; his children, Toussaint Manley, Torian (John) Myers, and Brandon Barrett; his siblings, Ray (Diana) Manley and Rene Manley; sister-in-law, Janice Bullock; grandsons, John Michael, Ian, Luxon, Cormac, and Lennox; and a host of loving nieces, including Christina Bullock, nephews, friends and family.
