Delores Lorraine (Brent) Childs, age 98, peacefully transitioned from this life on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in the comfort of her home located in Louisa, Virginia. Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Childs; son, Nicholas Brent Childs; parents, George W. and Lottie (Reid) Brent; siblings: George E. "Chubby" Brent, James L. Brent, DeLancey L. Gray, Dorothy "Teenie" Morton and Percy "Dick" Brent; granddaughter, TaWanda Rochelle Quarles; and great-granddaughter, Kimora LaVonne Quarles.
Delores was born on May 23, 1926, in Washington, D.C., to George W. and Lottie Brent. A true Washingtonian, she spent her formative years living and working in D.C. She graduated from Dunbar High School and went on to work at the Census Bureau. She eventually met and married Roy, having six children together. They moved their family to Louisa County, where they built a home and raised their children. Delores worked at Louisa Manufacturing for many years before going to work for Sperry Marine Co., from which she retired.
Delores was a very experienced seamstress, making clothes and quilts. Her hobby and passion were making quilts from scratch. She was an amazing cook and loved putting together jigsaw puzzles and completing crossword and word-search puzzles. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. If you knew her, you knew her to be sharp, quick witted and she gave you her opinion with blunt honesty. Needless to say, Delores lived a long, full life and was loved and respected by many.
Delores is survived by, and leaves to honor, cherish and carry on her memory, her children: Delores L. Quarles of Washington, D.C., Robert E. Childs of Louisa, VA, Cynthia Y. Childs of Louisa, VA, Andrea Childs Williams of Waynesboro (Louisa), VA, and Cheryl L. Ford of Landover, MD; her grandchildren: Candace, Jewel, Roger, Lionel Jr., Robert C. (Dewanda), Robert B., LaTerese (Quentin), Jermaine, Dominique, Da'Bray, Regina, and Kendra; and over twenty great-grandchildren. In addition to her immediate family, Delores will be missed by a host of family members and friends.
