A Time to be Born
Della Whiters Shelton was born on November 25, 1931 to the late James and Susie Whiters in Louisa, VA. Della remained in her beloved town and county her entire life.

A Time to Learn
Della attended public schools in Louisa County and graduated from A. G. Richardson High School in 1950.

A Time to Love
Della married the late Herbert Lee Shelton in 1953. She was a devoted wife and loving mother of eight children, Ruby Lee (John), Pearl Mansfield (Mclloyd), Vivian Winters (Edward), Melvin Shelton, deceased (Brenda), Franklin (Velma), Herbert, John (Terry), James (Sabrenda).

A Time to Work
Della worked for many years as a Seamstress for the Rockingham Sleepwear Factory and the Louisa Manufacturing Company. She was a devoted employee and took pride in her work. She was a loving and caring person and enjoyed working with her co-workers and made many friends.

A Time to Enjoy Life
Della was a beautiful lady who loved the latest fashions. Her daughter, Ruby (when she was financially able) enjoyed buying new things for her mother throughout the years to make her feel special. She really enjoyed family gathering at such times as Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthdays and new additions to the family.

A Time to Serve
Della accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at an early age. She joined the Watch Tower Baptist Church and enjoyed being a member of the choir. She and her late husband, Herbert Lee Shelton, and the children, had a gift for singing. They remained in the community where they continue to sing in various churches.

A Time to Die
Della transitioned to eternal rest on December 30, 2014. She was predeceased by her mother and father, James and Susie Whiters, her husband, Herbert Lee Shelton, son, Melvin, sister, Shirley, brothers, James, Jr., Henry, William, Horace, Charlie, and Raymond and an uncle, Arthur.

A Time to Mourn
Della leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, four sons, three daughters-in-law, three sons-in-law, two sisters, Lucy and Susie Whiters of Washington, DC; three brothers, Sylvester, Grifton (Darlene), both of Spotsylvania, County, VA, and Gurney (Sandra) of Philadelphia, PA; two brothers-in-law, Raymond and Lewis Shelton (Rose Marie), and five sisters-in-law, Vera Butler-Lee (Jesse), Martha Woods (Lionel), Mary Alsop (Roger), Dorothy Hunter, and Frances Shelton; twelve grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Rising Sun Baptist Church, 6829 Fredericks Hall Road, Mineral VA with the Reverend Frederick Sales officiating.  Interment will follow in the Shelton Family Cemetery, Mineral, VA.
