Deacon James Purcell Jones, Sr. peacefully departed this life on Monday, November 22, 2021 at his home. Purcell was born on March 13, 1941, in Louisa, VA, to the late Silas T. Jones and Virginia Alberta Jones.

At an early age he joined the Union Baptist Church Trevilians, VA, and remained a faithful member. Purcell served in various capacities within the church to include deacon, trustee, choir member and church sexton.

Purcell was educated at A.G. Richardson High School and later went on to work at numerous businesses throughout the area. Purcell made many friends during his employment with Woodard Motor, Keswick Country Club, Altman Furniture, Louisa County Public School System, Aileen and Blue Bell in Orange VA. His love for people led him on a new career path as a Certified Nurse's Assistant (CNA). He continued as a private caregiver until his retirement.

On June 14, 1963 he was joined in holy matrimony to Lucille Thurston. This union blessed them with one daughter and two sons. Purcell was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was affectionately known by many names such as Buck, Uncle Buck and Pa Pa.

Purcell was a member of the Masonic Lodge 266 and Emma V. Kelly Chapter 142 Order of the Eastern Star. He had a love for cars, CLEAN OLD CARS and collected model classic cars. Purcell loved to sit, talk and joke with all he knew. He always left you laughing or with a smile on your face. If there was an event taking place, Purcell could be found on the dance floor. He had a passion for finding thrift store bargains and loved taking family on his thrift store trips. Purcell showed his love for people in ways too numerous to count. If someone needed transportation to the grocery store, doctor's appointments, nursing home or wherever they needed to go; you could count on him to get you there.

Purcell was preceded in death by three brothers, Silas William Jones, Sr., Nelson Ware and Herman Diggs.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory a devoted wife of 58 years, Lucille Thurston Jones of Louisa, VA; one daughter, Christine Jones-Nixon (Stanley) of Orange, VA; two sons, James P. Jones, Jr. (Cindy) of Mineral, VA and Jaylin P. Jones (LaToya) of Augusta, GA; nine grandchildren, Brittany Buckner-Jones, Jasmine Buckner-Jones, Stanley Nixon II (Jamia), LaShae Brown (William), Jullien Womack (Erica), JaeShawn Jones, Jada Jones, Janiya Jones and Jameson Jones; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, George Jones, Sr., Vincent Jones (Connie); one foster brother, Oliver Diggs; six sister-in-laws, Cynthia Jones, Lillian Louise Jones, Linda Collins (Sherman), Phyllis Holland (Ronnie) and Zellaree Ware; three brother-in-laws, Samuel Thurston (Bernice), John Thurston (Celeste) and Bobby Thurston; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and devoted friends; Charlie Long, Chris Johnson and Grace Carter.
