David Lee Loftin, Jr. went home to glory on Sunday, February 8, 2015. He was born in Goldsboro, NC, on May 10, 1929, the fifth of seven children to the late David Sr. and Lula Loftin.
David grew up in Goldsboro and graduated from Dillard High School, Goldsboro, NC. Upon graduation, he served two (2) years in the United States (US) Army as an Armored Reconnaissance Crewman with Headquarters Company, Third Battalion, Third Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Meade, MD, from January 1951 to January 1953.
After receiving an honorable discharge from the US Army, he moved to New York City where he worked as a hospital orderly. It was in New York City where he met his first wife, Katherine Jackson. They married on October 5, 1958, and in 1962 they moved to Louisa County, VA.
He was an active member of County Line Baptist Church for over 40 years, serving on the Trustee Board and singing in the Men's Choir. David also had a long career in the film industry as a photographer and as a motion picture projectionist at the Paramount Theater in Charlottesville, VA for over 30 years. After losing his first wife Katherine in December 1992, He married his second wife, Patience Brooks, on December 24, 1993.
He is survived by his second wife, Patience Loftin; two (2) daughters, Geraldine (Geri) Peterson, Landover, MD and Natalie Grayson, Suffolk, VA; one (1) brother Ernest Loftin, Goldsboro, NC; one close cousin James Loftin, Richmond, VA; one daughter-in-law Irene Johnson-Loftin, Spotsylvania, VA; two sons-in-law, Melvin Farmer, Charlottesville, VA and Roger Grayson, Suffolk, VA; six grandsons, Kevin and Sean Peterson, and Johnnie, Lyndel and Lamont Farmer; three (3) granddaughters, Lisa Loftin, Ianthe Johnson and Krystal Farmer; three sisters-in-law, Alma and Alamena Loftin and Alice Anderson; five (5) adopted children, Joyce (Taylor, husband Tony), Thomas (wife Michelle), Frankie (wife Stephanie), Lawrence and David Lee Porter-Loftin (wife Delores); nine (9) great- grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents David Sr. and Lula Loftin, his first wife, Katherine Loftin, his son John Loftin and his daughter Lila Farmer; five (5) brothers Johnny, Ellie, Levi, Roosevelt, and Lyndel Loftin; and one granddaughter, Karla Loftin.
The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until services starts.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2015 at County Line Baptist Church 4070 County Line Road Kents Store, VA 23084. Interment with military honors, will follow in the church
cemetery.
