On April 25, 2014, Darlene Young Richardson departed this world for her farewell journey into her eternal life.  She was born on October 30, 1943, in Shores VA to the late Julia Mae Bates Young and Eddie Young, Sr.

Darlene was educated in the Fluvanna County School system.  Darlene went to work at the University of Virginia, where she worked for thirty-three years as a supervisor in the Housing Department from which she retired in 2008.  She was a supporter of the Fork Union Ladies Auxiliary Tree of Lights, the American Cancer Society, Saint Jude's and other such organizations

In addition to her parents, Darlene is preceded in death by her husband, Allen Lee Richardson and brother, Eddie Young, Jr.

Darlene leaves much love and precious memories with her four children, Carolyn L. Richardson of Charlottesville, VA, Allen W. Richardson and wife Rebecca, of Cedar Hill, TX, Nancy T. Richardson of Chesterfield, VA and Gary B. Richardson of Fork Union, VA; two grandsons, Trevor and Nicholas Richardson of Cedar Hill, TX; two god-children, Mario T. and Marco R. Young of Amherst, VA; three sisters, Shirley D. Roundtree of Palmyra, VA, Dorothy M. Young of Bronx, NY, and Diana Young of Martinsburg, WV; one brother, Michael L.  Young of Waynesboro, VA; three brothers-in-law,  James (Dorothy) Richardson of Keswick, VA, Otis and Fred P. (Barbara) Richardson of Palmyra, VA; four-sisters-law, Evelyn M. Young of Amherst, VA, Ethel (James) Robinson of Fort Washington, MD, Gertrude Keasley of Willow Grove, PA, and Barbara Murray of Hyattsville, MD; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at New Fork Baptist Church, 16 New Fork Church Lane, Palmyra, VA 22963 with the Rev. Emanuel C. Harris, officiating.  Interment will follow in the New Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.
