Curtis Melvin Morris, Sr. was born November 23, 1929 to the late Thomas Henry and Gladys Dean Bullock Morris in Louisa Virginia. He was called home to Heaven Wednesday April 30, 2014.

October 14, 1950 he married Constance C. Morris in Louisa Va., later moving to Washington, DC. He was a devoted Husband and Father of eight children, Connie Morris (Gilbert), Silva Walker (Robert), Barbara Malhotra (Raj), Curtis M. Morris, Jr., Carolyn Veasey (Ricardo), Tony Morris (Lisa), Thomas E. Morris, and David Morris.

After the death of his first wife, Curtis rekindled his friendship with Beulah Seaberry and they married on April 8, 2000 gaining the love of seven step children, Bobby, James Jr. ( Skipper), Lisa, Maxine, Vanessa, Dana and Nathan.

For fourteen years Mr. & Mrs. Curtis Morris were inseparable like a shadow, privately snickering at each other.

He received his formal education in the Louisa County Public School system. Curtis continued his education at Phelps Vocational School in Washington DC mastering the art of brick masonry.  He was a longtime employee of Long Masonry for over 30 years, and as a contractor.   Curtis was proud to share his construction skills with his family, neighbors, and churches many times with the assistance of his sons. After retirement from masonry work, he returned to Louisa where he worked at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.

Curtis believed volunteerism was a cornerstone for building character. He often volunteered in his community by helping neighbors or other families in need.   He loved to talk about politics and was actively involved in the Civil Rights movement and other political affairs. He served on the voter registration drives and other political activities such as the election of the first non-voting delegate (Walter E. Fauntroy) of Washington. D.C. He instilled in his children this foundation and today they share his commitment by volunteering to perform community services.

Since childhood Curtis maintained his membership at Mount Gilliam Baptist Church (Old Site) in Louisa, traveling from Washington, DC for Sunday Service. There he served the Lord in multiple capacities including Deacon, Trustee and Treasurer.   Also while at Mt. Gilliam, Curtis assisted with numerous construction projects for church facility enhancement.   As a member of Zion Travelers Baptist Church, Curtis again entrenched himself serving God as Deacon and in the Men's Choir.

A man of high integrity, he put his family first, going without new shoes or cars, not because he didn't want them, but because he recognized the importance of his leadership role as Father to his sons and daughters. Knowing one day they too would have families.   Daddy liked to tell jokes and kid around frequently laughing at his own antics. Our Father cared for many family members when they became incapable of caring for themselves.   Curtis was an easy man to know, understand, appreciate and love.

He is preceded in death by parents Thomas & Gladys Morris, Constance Morris, (first wife), 2 brothers Thomas (Pete) & Hilton (Rita), 1 sister Delores (Doll Baby)Johnson (John) and one nephew Donald(Jodi) Morris.

He is survived by his loving wife Beulah Morris, his eight children, 1 devoted sister Dora Comfort (Amon), 4 brothers Oscar(Hallie), George (Alice), James (Terri) and Donald (Parthenia), seven step-children, brother in laws Fleming Shelton Jr. , Ivor Shelton (Mary ), sister-in laws Rita Monk(Hilton), Hurma Harrison, Joesphine Timberlake(Leroy), Emma Washington (James), Irene Morris (Corrie), Martha Brice (Russell), seventeen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Special thanks to devoted step-grand daughter and caregiver Tammy Brown, C.N.A. and Piedmont Hospice for their services.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 at Zion Travelers Baptist Church, 3662 Roundabout Road, Louisa, VA with Rev. Austin Bates officiating. Internment will follow at Mt. Gilliam (OS) Baptist Church Cemetery Mineral, VA.
