Cornelius Lipscomb, Jr. slipped quietly into the arms of God Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg, VA.
This bundle of joy was the second child born to the late Cornelius, Sr. and Mary Virginia Thurston Lipscomb on August 31, 1951 in Louisa, VA.
With a strong Christian family connection, he attended Mt. Gilliam Baptist (New Site) Church, Mineral, VA during his formative years. Junior as he was called, attended Z.C. Morton and A.G. Richardson School in Louisa. Later on, he went to Lynchburg Training School in Lynchburg, VA. He would come home on holidays and special occasions. Junior stayed there working at his trade until his health failed.
Memories of Cornelius, "Jr." will be cherished by his mother, Mary Virginia; sister, Camberlena Lipscomb of Louisa; brother, Clarence Lipscomb of North Garden, VA; two aunts, Rachel (Thomas) Sullivan, Fort Washington, MD and Pauline Hayden, Washington, DC; three uncles, Mitchell (Elizabeth) and Clayton Thurston of Louisa, VA and Clyde Lipscomb of Baltimore, MD; two nieces, Renee Lipscomb, Fredericksburg, VA and Jennifer Lipscomb, Charlottesville, VA; one nephew, Jason Lipscomb, Charlottesville, VA; one great nephew, Dylan Lipscomb, Fredericksburg, VA; caregivers, Anita Drinker and Andrea New of Lynchburg, VA and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Mt. Gilliam New Site Baptist Church with Rev. Louis Collins, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
