Clifton Jerome Poindexter , 55, of Kents Store, VA died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at his residence. Funeral notice later.Clifton Jerome Poindexter, Sr. entered into eternal rest to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 11, 2014. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Clifton was born August 8, 1958, to the late Mack Poindexter, Sr. and Inez Scott Poindexter of Kents Store, Virginia. Clifton joined the Galilee Baptist Church at a young age and later rededicated his life under Rev. Otis Spellman. There he found an inner peace and joy. He looked forward to getting dressed to attend Sunday's church service, and seldom ever missed a Sunday to hear a word from God. He remained a faithful member until his body became frailer and weakened from his illness which he battled for 25 long years. Clifton was a graduate of Fluvanna County High School and the Charlottesville Vo-Tech Center. He was employed by the University of Virginia Physical plant and was a model employee. He believed in getting the proper rest to perform his best at work. He was never tardy unless it was something he couldn't control. He was a certified HVAC Technician and was one of UVA's earlier members to attend UVA's first-ever-offered Apprenticeship Program. He would repair people's air conditioners in their cars and home, and he dabbled at doing electrical work. He was very smart and good at whatever he set his mind to do. Clifton's manager (Mr. Goldie Baber) and he established a loving friendship almost like a father & son. Mr. Baber would often say, "I think a lot of Poindexter" as he would call Clifton. Mr. Baber and Clifton shared personal UVA stories, jokes and laughter. He knew how to bring about a beautiful smile from Clifton just sharing UVA recollections.

Clifton leaves to cherish his precious memories to: his son, Clifton Jerome Poindexter, Jr. and one grandson; his mother, Inez Poindexter, two brothers; Curtis (Edna) Poindexter of Louisa, Virginia and Mack (Ramona) Poindexter of Trevilians, Virginia. Three sisters; Virgie (Clarence "Leroy") Shelton of Kents Store, Virginia, Della "Maxine" (Leonard) Griffin of Petersburg, Virginia, Priscilla (Min. Lawrence) Henson of Kents Store, Virginia and Lucille (Lawrence) Randolph of Charlottesville, Virginia. Nine nieces and nephews: Elmo Shelton, Stephanie Poindexter, Stephanie Haden, Curtis Poindexter, Jr., Kevin Poindexter, Pamela Lindsay, Antonio "Van" Shelton, Alphonzo "Jack" Anderson, and Nicole "Nikki" Poindexter, 16 great-nieces and nephews; one great-great niece, one great-great nephew, and a host of cousins, relative and friends.

Funera services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2014, at the Galilee Baptist Church , 3598 Three Notch Road, Kents Store, Virginia. Min. Lawrence Henson will be officiating. There will not be a wake. The body will be available for viewing one hour before the funeral.
