Clarence "LEROY" Shelton, 74, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 22, 2014. Leroy was born June 23, 1940, to the late Lewis Shelton and Alice Johnson Shelton of Kents Store, VA. Leroy is preceded in death by his two brothers'; Marvin (Bessie) Shelton, and Lewis "June" Robert Shelton, Jr., and one sister; Gertrude Bishop.

Leroy joined the Byrd Grove Baptist Church in Kents Store, VA at a young age and he attended S.C. Abrams High School in Palmyra, VA. As he grew older he maintained an interest in learning the deep rich heritage of carpentry which was a staple in the Shelton's family history. His earlier teaching came from the best… his father. He loved building things and had a burning desire to learn more about carpentry. In 1965 Leroy built his own home and has built homes for several other people. In later years, Leroy went beyond building homes and expanded his knowledge to anything pertaining to a building's structure. He studied carefully and educated himself by working with other skilled construction workers. Later he became licensed in Carpentry, Concrete Form and Skyscraper: He was "Master of all Trades" in plumbing, drain field, and electrical. Leroy was a union worker for First Class Carpenter's union.

Leroy was a wonderful provider to his family, and his wife (at home and at the nursing home). He was gentle, kind-hearted, eagerly ambitious, and a hard worker, always wanting to learn and be able to give assistance to help anyone in dire need to repair a homeowner problem or emergency. Leroy loved meeting people and was no stranger to sharing his knowledge with others to show someone how to do something. He had good work ethics and was very smart and good at whatever he set his mind to do. Leroy finally retired and settle down to doing odds and ends type of jobs when homeowners would call him. Soon after retiring, his health began to slowly fail. A few years later, his health changed from doing things for people, to people having to do things for him. Although, his health changed, his attitude remained the same. He loved people, watching westerns, hearing a good joke, sharing stories, laughing and making others smile.

Leroy leaves to cherish his precious memories; his wife; Virgie Shelton (ENVOY at the Meadows, Goochland, VA.), Three sons; Elmoe Valentino Shelton, of Kents Store, VA and (Gwendolyn Gibson of Waynesboro, VA), Antonio "Van" (Janice) Shelton, Sr., of Bremo Bluff, VA and Clarence "Precious" (Bessie) Fortune of Maidens, VA. Nine grandchildren; Jessica Gibson, Kendra Shelton, Kayla Shelton, Shontey Williams, Antonio Shelton, Jr., Diamond Shelton, Chelsea Shelton (and her dog Tux), Tzeira "Ashley" Fortune and "C.J." Fortune, her Four great-great grandchildren; (plus expecting one), and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, August 30, 2014, Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel with Minster Lawrence Henson officiating. There will not be a wake, interment or repass.
