IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Clara Virginia
Bruce
February 24, 1937 – February 8, 2020
In the early morning hour of February 8, 2020, the Angels of the Lord stopped by for Clara Virginia Bruce and the Angels said, "we know you're loved by many, but GOD loves you more and have called you home to be with him".
Clara Virginia Quarles-Bruce, born February 24, 1937, was the daughter of the late George and Minnie Quarles and the youngest girl of eight children. At the age of three years old, her parents died and Clara was raised by her older sister, Sylena Henson. Clara was the last living child of the Quarles family, preceding in death her parents, sisters (Sylena & Cora) and brothers (Russell, Clarence, Robert, George & Clyde) and one son-in-law: Ira Simpson. Clara was baptized at Galilee Baptist Church at an early age and remained a member of Galilee Baptist Church throughout her life. She was a passionate member of the Senior Choir and served on various committees within the church. Clara was educated at AG Richardson School in Louisa, Virginia. Clara married Horace Bruce Jr. of Kents Store, Virginia on March 20, 1954. From that union came seven children of which her first child, Maurice Bruce, preceded her in death.
Clara worked as Sales Associate at Leggett's Department Store and a Production Worker at Comdial Corporation later called General Dynamics. After retiring she worked with families as a caregiver. One of her most beloved responsibilities was transporting children to the Open-Door Christian Schools. Clara found transporting students to school gave her so much pride and spoke fondly of her experience. She loved to help others and to care for those who needed her. She was a friend to all who knew her.
Clara is survived by her husband Horace Bruce Jr. of 65 years, children; Brenda Simpson, Horace D. Bruce (Roxanne), Shelia Davis (Nate), Maxine Murphy (fiancé Ray), Laurie Tolliver (Billy) and Irving Bruce (Delores), twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, sisters-in-law: Adeline Quarles, Adel Quarles, Marion Quarles, Flossie Quarles, Anna Quarles, Doris Price and Janie Holland and brother-in-law Shirley Bruce (Kathleen); along with host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
