A Host of Angels rejoiced when Christine Ann Cooke, 73, of Louisa, Virginia completed her faithful service on this earth, Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 11:15am at Envoy At The Meadows, Goochland, Virginia. Christine, born January 13, 1936 in Washington, DC is the daughter of the late George & Theresa Hawkins. Christine leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of 51 years, Stuart W. Cooke, Ret.CMSGT USAF, of Louisa, Virginia; 4 children, Mary Washington (Ernest), Denise Taliaferro (Marvin) of all of Atlanta, GA, Stuart Cooke Jr. (Wanda) of Hampton,Virginia and Barbara Dauphin (Ronald) of Bowie, MD, 12 sisters and brothers; 6 sisters-in-law, 7 brothers-in-law, a host of cousins, nephews & nieces. Christine dearly loved her 10 grandchildren who were the joy & pride of her life: Olivia (14) & Jordan (8) Washington; Myron (24) & Marvin Jr. (20) Taliaferro; Niesha (24), Dakari (16) & Keyana (14) Cooke; and Dominique (5), Gabrielle (3) & Zachary (1) Dauphin.
Christine was a faithful member of St. Jude Catholic Church, served as a Eucharistic Minister and on the Woman's Guild. She also was a faithful and cheerful worker who served the Lord through her relentless hours of community work as close as Louisa County, VA and as far away as Saudi Arabia, Spain and Europe. She was a recognized speaker, community organizer, teacher, life coach, campaigner, church servant and is known by her friends, family, clients, and partners as the internet diva for her brand of "techno-connecting" through webpages, e-mail, Facebook, ISeeColor and Twitter accounts all at the age of 73. In addition, she also served as President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Board member, and committee member and volunteer extraordinaire on numerous local, national and international organizations including NAACP, AARP, political campaigns, housing boards, and Crime Solvers to mention a few. Christine received the prestigious John O. von Hemert Volunteer Spirit Award for her relentless efforts to improve the lives of those in her community and abroad.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A wake will be held Thursday, December 10th from 7-8pm at Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel 117 West Street, Louisa, Virginia. The family request that all reflections, prayers, comments & well wishes be conveyed during the wake instead of at the Funeral.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 11th at 11am at St. Jude Roman Catholic Church, 1937 Davis Highway, Mineral, Virginia 23117, (540) 894-4266, Rev. Michael Duffy, Pastor. Burial will immediately follow services at The Cooke Family Cemetery, 1525 West Old Mountain Road, Louisa, Virginia 23093.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
