Charles Edward Shelton departed this world on July 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and generosity. Born on March 28, 1961, in Louisa, Virginia, to Deacon Fleming Shelton, Jr., and the late Lola Jean Burruss-Barbour, Charles was raised and educated in the Louisa County school system. He is proceeded in death by his mother Lola Jean Burruss-Barbour and his brother Fleming Harding Shelton.

Baptized at an early age, Charles believed in Jesus as the Savior. Though not a regular churchgoer, he reflected the Light of Christ through his actions. Charles was known for his humble, gentle spirit and his willingness to help others whenever needed. Soft-spoken and peaceful, he was a man who lived by love and kindness.

Throughout his life, Charles held various jobs and took great pride in his work. His employers always spoke highly of him and admired the care he put into everything he did. In recent years he was self-employed, taking on jobs such as home improvement projects. There was little Charles could not do; he was naturally talented and gifted.

Charles had a passion for drawing and playing guitar, both of which he did with remarkable skill despite no formal training. Playing music with his band Sweet Water friends brought him joy, and he cherished those moments. They were invited to play throughout the county at family reunions and other family celebrations.

He also loved working on mopeds and cars, always finding happiness in tinkering with them.

Family was central to Charles’s life. He deeply loved his father and siblings, and cared greatly for his nephews and nieces, often asking about them even in his last days. Although Charles was never married, he shared a devoted friendship with Elizabeth (Liz) Dabney, whose children and grandchildren were like family to him.

Charles is survived by his father, Fleming Shelton Jr.; his siblings, Patricia (Patty) Russell (Dave), Craig Shelton, Rodney (Tony) Shelton (Pat) and Otealia (TeeTee) Jackson. He has several nieces and nephews and a host of cousins, family and friends. Additionally, he has one living aunt, Beulah Morris, and two uncles, Charles Burruss(Rosie) and Joseph (Robin) Burruss(Vonnie).

He will be greatly missed, but his gentle and kind spirit will live in the memories of those who knew and loved him.
