Charles Edward Barney, Sr., 70, of Mineral, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015, at his residence.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lucy M. Barney; sons, Charles Jr., and Anthony (and his wife Stacey); six grandchildren, Jason, Christopher, Deserae, Kendra, Selena, and MahKenzee; and two great-grandchildren, Syncere and Shaun. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa.

Best known as Pop to his family and friends, Charles worked at L&M Construction for more than two decades. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and "Poppy". He enjoyed keeping busy around the yard, constantly tinkering around in his garden and building picnic tables for his friends and family. He will be greatly missed by all.

There will be a public viewing at Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel on Thursday, May 7 from noon to 7:00 p.m.

His homegoing service will take place at Laurel Hill Baptist Church, Mineral, VA on Friday, May 8 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Barry Carpenter officiating. Viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the Johnson Family Cemetery.
