Carl Webster Wright departed this earthly life on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at The University Of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, VA. He was the oldest son of the late Stephen and Nannie Stewart Wright. At the time of his passing, he was the oldest member of the First Bible Way Church of Louisa.
Following the Christian devotion and leadership of his parents, Carl publicly professed his acceptance of the Lord Jesus Christ by joining the Peach Grove Baptist Church in Louisa County. There he attended Sunday school and church worship services regularly. In later years, he united with the First Bible Way Church of Louisa, where he continued to work faithfully as a servant of God. For many years he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and Director of Vacation Bible School. In his earlier years, he worked tirelessly around the church transporting members to services and children from the community to Vacation Bible School, maintaining the church grounds, and doing whatever tasks necessary for the upkeep of the church and edification of the kingdom of God.
Carl received his formal education at the Louisa Training School. He later attended Virginia State College, in Petersburg, Virginia, before being drafted into the United States Army where he was stationed in Japan. After his honorable discharge from the army, he was employed with the Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service, until he was unable to continue his service there because of his health.
Carl loved attending family dinners and cookouts. In his earlier years, he also enjoyed travelling with his church family on summer vacations and to convocations. Even though he had a quiet demeanor, Carl was always willing to sit and spend time with anyone who desired company.
Carl is survived by two sisters: Julia W. Johnson, of Capitol Heights, MD, Daphne W. Johnson and her husband Lenwood, of Louisa; one brother, Steve Wright, and his wife Louise, of Louisa; a brother-in-law, Walter "Geezil" Young, of Ruther Glen, VA; one uncle, Russell Stewart and his wife Mary, of Philadelphia, PA; two aunts, Pearl Lena Thurston, of Louisa, and Mamie Stewart, of Woodbridge, VA; a sister-like niece, Cheryl J.
