The angels came down from heaven and rescued Betty Catherine Simms, early in the morning, on Saturday, June 17, 2023. Although our hearts are saddened and heavy, we concur that Our Heavenly Father makes no mistakes.
Affectionately known as Boo, Betty Boo, or Betty Catherine, Betty was born on July 5, 1958 to the late Calvin W. & Thelma Carter Simms, in Bumpass, Virginia. She was the youngest of four children. In addition to her parents, she is also predeceased by her brother, Richard Allen Carter; her oldest sister, Brenda Lea Simms, and a nephew, Richard 'Connie' Carter.
Betty was educated in the Louisa County Public School System, and following school she was initially employed by Burns Security, Inc., for several years. She was later employed with VEPCO at the North Anna Power Station, currently known as the Dominion Energy - North Anna Power Station. She retired from Dominion Energy in 2019, after 37 years of service.
A committed and supportive member of the Watchtower Baptist Church, Bumpass, Virginia, Betty was baptized and joined the church at an early age. She willingly and faithfully served the church in many capacities: Board of Trustees, Financial Secretary, Choir member, Hospitality Committee member, and Usher. She attended Sunday School, Bible Study and Worship Service, regularly, until her most recent illness and hospitalization prohibited her. She was truly an integral part of the church family and she will be sorely missed from their midst.
Betty not only displayed her love, kindness and generosity to others, she was also loved in returned by so many, near and far. She always greeted you with a beautiful and contagious smile, and a heartfelt hug. Often times, it was obvious that she was not feeling her best, but she still pressed on to offer her support of others. Betty was not one to call attention to herself, she always gave all praises to God, while never ceasing to do whatever she could to assist with any task that came her way. She had a very loving and humble spirit.
Although Betty has departed from our earthly realm, gained her wings, and is now resting in the sheltering arms of our Savior Jesus Christ, many will cherish fond memories of her: a loving, caring and devoted sister, Grace (James) Carter; a cousin that she raised as a daughter, Elena (Chano) LaBoy; nephews and nieces, Roy Simms, Franklin (Lisa) Carter, Arlene Carter and Stephanie (Walter) Langhorne; aunts, Constance Stokes and Della Carter; a host of great-nieces/nephews, cousins and friends; devoted, Melvin Houchens (little brother), Janice Bullock, Rose Thomasson, Sandra Woolfolk, and her Watchtower Baptist Church Family.
