Betty Burnley Nelson was born on March 17, 1928 to Helen Burnley Harris and Thomas Monroe Harris.On August 2, 2015, Betty was called home to be with the Lord.
She was a very quiet and loving person. She loved her husband, children, grandchildren and church family.
Before Betty's health began to decline, she loved to put on her white uniform and gloves and usher members and guest into the sanctuary.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Helen Harris; a sister, Louise Burnley and her only brother, William B. Harris.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory; her husband of 60 years, Jessie Nelson of Mineral, VA; three sons, Charles Nelson (Esther) of Powhatan, VA, Emmanuel Harris of Lexington, VA. and Michael Nelson of Winston-Salem, NC; three daughters; Gladys Smith (Herman) of Greenville, NC, Joyce Nelson of Norfolk, VA, Virginia Nelson of Mineral, VA; four sisters, Laura Evans of Richmond, VA, Helen Jones of Washington, DC, Florence Pace and Sadie Johnson (Frank) of Mineral, VA; 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Philippi Christian Church with Rev. Temple Anderson, Sr., officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
