Bertha Morris Pendleton, 79, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 1, 2007 in Philadelphia, PA. She was born in Louisa, Virginia on August 21, 1928 to the late George and Olivia Bishop Morris. Many close friends and relatives knew her as "Bert" or "Sis". Bertha attended school in Louisa County and graduated from Louisa High School. After graduating from high school, she moved to Philadelphia, PA in 1951, where she shared the rest of her life (56years) with her beloved husband, William Pendleton. She then continued her education at Dobbins Vocational High School in Philadelphia where she took tailoring courses. She held several jobs and one of them included an assembler technician and for over thirty years she worked for Victory Company. Bertha had a full time job as mother of three children; Carolyn, William, Jr. and Norman. She took pride in cooking the families' favorite dessert dishes and keeping her house a comfortable home. In her free time Bertha would usually sew or read the Bible.
This Christian woman had a strong hand and a good heart. She knew, believed and took God as her personal Savior. During most of her childhood years, she was an active member of First Baptist Church in Louisa County and during her adult years she became an active member of Philadelphia's United Church of Christ (Woodcrest).
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Norman Pendleton, a brother, George Morris and a sister, Dolores Mae Noble.
Bertha leaves to cherish precious memories; a loving husband, William Pendleton; a daughter, Carolyn Pendleton; a son, William Pendleton, Jr.; three brothers, Phillip, Dennis and Donald Morris; six sisters, Myrtle Simmons, Shirley Walton, Juanita Morris, Natasha Morris, Anna Thomasson and Beatrice Mayo; two daughters-in-law, Madeline Garcia Pendleton and Vanessa Thomasson Pendleton; five grandchildren; Bill, Eric, Melissa, Brittany and Tiffany Pendleton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Her remains will lie in state from 12 noon to time of the funeral at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at First Baptist Church 102 Meadow Avenue Louisa, Virginia 23093. The interment will be in the Spring Grove Memorial Gardens in Mineral.
