IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barney Ray
Smith
December 27, 1969 – August 13, 2019
On Tuesday, August 13, 2019, Our Heavenly Father, closed the eyes of our beloved Barney Ray Smith, Sr., as he departed this earthly life, at the Henrico Doctors Hospital, Richmond, Virginia. Although our hearts are saddened and heavy, we concur that God only takes the best.
Barney, was born on December 27, 1969 to his mother and father, Patricia Shelton Waller and the late Edward Smith, Sr. He shared his life with two loving brothers, Edward, Jr., and Brandon. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by the mother of his son, Consuela (Connie) Gordon; his maternal grandparents, William and Carrie Barney Shelton, Sr.; paternal grandparents, Richard and Bernice Melton Smith; uncle Richard Smith, Jr.; and aunt Karen Smith.
Barney received his education in the Louisa County Public Schools, graduating from the Louisa County High School in 1988. He gave his life to Christ, was baptized, and joined the Rising Sun Baptist Church, Mineral, Virginia, under the pastorate of Rev. Sherman Thomas, on August 14, 1981, at the age of 12.
Barney was an independent business owner for over 20 years, managing and operating, Smith Tree and Landscaping, LLC, in Henrico, Virginia. He took much pride in nurturing and maintaining his customers' lawns, and taking down large hazardous trees; and many of his long-term customers were just like family.
Barney was a real family man, as nothing was more important to him than his son, Little Barney, his mother, brothers, nieces, and devoted cousins and friends. He enjoyed fishing, going to the race track, and bringing family and friends together around the grill. He was known for his special pig roasting skills. He didn't hesitate to say that no one was better than Barney Ray Smith!!
Our beloved Barney leaves to cherish his memories: a loving mother, Patricia Shelton Waller, and her husband Robert; his 10 year old son, Barney, Jr.; two brothers, Edward (EC) Smith, Jr, and Katrina Daniels, and Brandon Smith; two nieces, Keyara and Carmen Smith; three uncles, Willian Shelton, Jr. (Janice), Kenneth Smith, Sr., and Marcus Smith, Sr.; four aunts, Brenda Quarles (Edward), Rosetta Burruss (Charles, Sr.), Lorna Stevens, and Sylvia Quarles (Albert); five great-aunts, Grace Shelton, Sheree Barney, Nora Robinson (Melvin), Ada Whitley (Warren), and Geraldine Chandler; six great uncles, Curtis Shelton, Sr., Leslie Shelton (Mary), Wilbur Moore, Matt Smith, Sr., Larry Smith, Sr., and Harry M.
