Avon Louise Jones
13 June 1945 - 02 January 2022

To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose (Ecclesiates 3:1)
Today we gather to acknowledge and celebrate the new life that Avon "Vonnie/Bonnie" Jones has entered; an eternal life in the presence of God.

A time to be Born (Ecclesiates 3:2)
Avon Louise "Bonnie" Jones was born on June 13, 1945, in Washington, DC to the late Asbury and Rebecca Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers Asbury Jr, Raymond, George, Joseph and Fred. Other family members that preceded her include four brother-in-laws, Freddie, George, James, Earl and one sister-in-law Lillian.

A time to Learn (Proverbs 22:6)
Bonnie as she was affectionately known, was raised in Washington, DC and educated in the DC Public School System; however, due to family responsibilities she was not able to complete her studies until many years later through the GED Cumberland Regional Adult Education program in Louisa, VA. Bonnie graduated in 2011 and she was proud of her accomplishment and always striving to learn more, she immediately enrolled in Piedmont Community College to study and learn "everything" that her mind could absorb. It was during this time, that she was diagnosed with the rare blood cancer known as multiple myeloma. She survived this cancer for 9 years before it eventually relapsed and treatment was no longer viable. Bonnie contracted COVID-19 in June 2020 and survived that with the blessing from the Lord.

A time to Worship (John 3:3)
Bonnie joined the church at an early age, and continued to served as a faithful servant and missionary to be called and serve as needed -Usher, Kitchen, Cleaning, Gardening; wherever help was needed, she was there.

A time to Work (James 1:25)
Bonnie's early employment was with the Hot Shoppes own by Marriott, she loved the work and enjoyed meeting new people. She worked nearly 10 years for the Hyatt Regency serving in a host of positions and continued meeting and making lifetime friendships. She would later spend 20 years working for the Federal Government, Department of Commerce NTIS as a research administrator assistant.

A time to Love (Ecclessiates 3:8)
Bonnie is survived by her loving husband Ervin of 57 years and from this union they have two daughters Kimberly (Shawn) Pitt of Springfield, VA and Marie Jones of Louisa, VA. She leaves to cherish her memory eleven grandchildren, Shawn Pitt of New York City, Bryan Pitt of Woodbridge, VA, Ashwin Pitt of Charlottesville, VA, Alan White, Jr. of Stafford, VA, Courtney White of New Orleans, La, Octavia Pitt, Jameel Pitt, Azaliah Pitt, Karima Pitt, Emanuel Pitt, and Isiah Pitt all of Springfield, VA; and one infant great-grand daughter Savannah White.

Bonnie is also survived by her three loving sisters Frances Jones of Woodbridge, VA, Hedy Jones of North Carolina, and Ruth Campbell of South Carolina; she also has two brothers Douglas Jones of Harper Woods, MI and David Small of Washington, DC. In addition, she loved, valued and respected her nieces and nephews, lifelong friends, church-family, and co-workers.

A time for Departure (II Timothy 4:46)
She peacefully made her transition on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at her residence in Louisa, VA surrounded by family.

From the Family:

We would like to thank everyone for their prayers, visits and support during this time. Especially those who knew and loved our mother, she had a kind and loving heart, she would go that extra mile for you, she would give you her last dollar, she would serve, assist and help anyone who needed it. You could always find her on the go either by herself, or with her husband, or with her daughters. She enjoyed visiting the beach, which held a special meaning in her heart. Mom would always teased that she had an engineering degree because she enjoyed taking apart and putting things back together, she enjoyed washing and folding clothes, and mailing gift boxes to family members — her own personal shipping and receiving company.
