A wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, and a great-great grandmother, a sister, sister in law, an aunt, a cousin, a niece, and a servant of GOD!

Today we have come to celebrate Areatha G. Marshall, a life well-lived. Areatha was born to Charles & Gustavia Waddy on February 2, 1922, in Bumpass Virginia; she was one of 13 children. She departed this life on Saturday morning, May 6, 2017. When she left, a piece of our hearts left too.

She was educated in the Louisa County Public Schools, "Plum Tree". She later married Stape Alexander Marshall and to this union, five children were born. She was a member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church until her health failed her.

In 1946, Areatha and her family moved to Washington, DC, where she found work as a domestic while earning her GED, and then later, was hired at DAR Constitution Hall. Wanting more for her family, a very determined Areatha applied for and was hired at the Air and Space Museum, where she worked until her retirement in 1984.
Areatha had many skills, but the skill she was most proud of was being a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. She always made it a point to empower all of her family and friends with loving encouraging words and acts of kindness. She also extended that same love and kindness to the surrounding community by running a daycare out of her home for 17 years. She was there when you needed a shoulder to cry on and a push in the right direction.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stape Alexandra Marshall, and oldest daughter, Alma Gay Green. Left with unspeakable grief, but cherished memories, and the promise of our Lord and Savior that we will meet again, are her loving children: Stape Marshall Jr. (2 children), Alma G. Green, deceased (5 children), Patricia A. Marshall (5 children), Joseph Marshall (3 children), Leroy Marshall (2 children one deceased). Areatha also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of the service

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Laurel Hill Baptist Church, 7652 Kentucky Spring Road, Mineral Virginia, 23117 with Rev. Barry Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
