Mrs. Anna Bullock Thompson, 82, was called home to be with the Lord from her residence
in Gordonsville, Virginia, on Saturday, June 16, 2007.
She was born on June 14, 1925 in Wildwood, Virginia (Fluvanna County). She is the
seventh of nine children born to the late Cleveland Wiley Bullock and Ellis Harvey Bullock of
Fluvanna County, Virginia. She was preceded in death by five sisters: Ester B. Coleman, Lucy
Henson, Winifred Jackson, Viola Jones and Glenavie Fowler and one brother, Joseph Bullock.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 55 years, Cecil D.
Thompson, Sr.; two children, Darlene Cowell and her husband, Leon, of Rocky Mount, North
Carolina and Cecil D. Thompson, Jr. and his wife, Colette, of Keswick, Virginia; three
grandchildren, Ryan and Kimberly Thompson and Julian Cowell; two brothers, David and Emmett
Bullock of Palmyra; two sisters-in-law, Dolores Alexander of Capitol Heights, Maryland and Verna
Anderson of Gordonsville, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews , other relatives and friends. She was
also blessed to have loving and devoted caregivers; Dr. Robert Ooghe, Physician, Mrs. Evelyn
Johnson, personal assistant and Mrs. Shirley Harris, CNA.
Mrs. Thompson was a life member of the Union Baptist Church where she served as
Deaconess; Assistant Clerk; member of the choir, Missionary Circle and Sunday School. She was
a former Grand District Deputy Organizer- Order of the Eastern Star of Virginia (Prince Hall
Affiliation) and Past Worthy Matron of the Monticello Chapter #43. She was also a life member of
the Orange County Branch of the NAACP; a founding trustee of the Woodbury Cemetery
Association, a life member of the Charlottesville/Albemarle Senior Center; Corresponding Secretary
of the Piedmont District Baptist Association (PDBA) Women's Auxiliary and Layman's Union.
She was a 1947 graduate of St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Virginia. Mrs. Thompson
educated numerous children over 35 years as an Elementary School Teacher in Fluvanna and Louisa
School Districts prior to her retirement in 1982.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at Union Baptist
Church in Gordonsville, Virginia with the Rev. Dr. R.A. Johnson, Rev. F. Lamont Gooding and Rev.
James T. Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in the Culpeper National Cemetery. The family
will receive friends and family at the church one hour prior to the service.
